NEW units now in stock! Updated May 2000 What is a HEPA filter? HEPA stands for "High Efficiency Particle Air," meaning the filter has the ability to remove free-floating particles from an air stream with very high efficiency. Most commercially available units will remove 99.97 to 99.99% of all particles down to 0.3 or 0.2 microns. This is important because since the smallest bacteria are around 0.2 microns, this will render the air flowing through this filter essentially sterile. With sterile air flow, growers can work in an environment that reduces or eliminates the chances for contamination. In the past, we have had HEPA filter units available for sale; these were fan-filter units, which are both relatively inexpensive and remarkably versatile for the home flasker. Although much more expensive than a glove box (around $600), these were still cheaper than paying $3000 for a commercial laminar-flow workstation, with the same efficiency. I never worked with a HEPA workstation until two years ago, when I set up a 2' x 4' AAF FM-2 fan/filter unit. I haven't touched my glove box since. There's nothing quite as good as having your own HEPA workstation, and we'll do our best to bring you inexpensive, high-quality units for your work. We work closely with distributors who understand our application, and they look for new and surplus units that will do the job. Ask us to see what we can do for you. Although not cheap, these are the best option for the aggressive hobbyist, or the professional. Currently, we have no HEPA filters in stock- but we can still help you out.
