Building your own clean-air workstation

It was constructed from 3/4" plywood covered with formica. The front contains fixed and sliding sheets of 1/4 lucite. The moveable sheet travels in aluminum channel. The lucite was used because the fan capacity would probably not be suffient for an open front, and it also diminishes the contamination when not in use. The fan is a small double squirrel-cage unit which contains its own filtering system, but since I wasn't totally confident of its filtration ability, I ran the air through a second 16x25 filter in the ceiling of the unit. I've tested its effectiveness by exposing petri dishes of nutrient agar for periods of up to 30 minutes in the air flow. No contamination! This lab is also my microbiology ( and other classes) lab, so there are lots of airborne organisms.
