UNITED STATES FLEET
COMMANDER SEVENTH FLEET
By virtue of the power delegated to me, I take pleasure in awarding in
the name of the President of the United States, the Navy and Marine
Corps
Medal to:
Edward St.Clair Miller BM 2/C U.S.N.
and
Alfred Burton Moore MoMM 3/C U.S.N.R
.
NAVY and MARINE CORPS MEDAL
CITATION

For Distinguishing Themselve's by heroic action aboard a slow-tow
echelon
from Leyte to Zamboanga in the Philippine Islands early in March 1945.
On three occasions, heavy seas parted the tow lines between the tug and
invaluable floating equipment destined for an advanced PT base. On each
occasion it was found impossible to launch a small boat from the tug to
retrieve the tow. However, with utter dis-regard for personal safety,
Miller
and Moore voluntarily secured lines about their waist and swam through
rough seas three times to secure it, thus enabling all equipment sent
on
this convoy to arrive safely at its destination. These acts of valor
contributed
greatly to the successful operations of Motor Torpedo Boats in the
Zamboanga
area, and were in accordance with the higest traditions of the Navy of
the United States.
