                              DNA Results and Groupings

                                   Men in the Overall G2a3b1 DYS568=9 Group 
                                          but not Part of Clades

All the men here with 67 markers have a value of 9 for marker DYS568 characteristic of the group.
All the groups genetically adjacent to the DEIJ group have a value of 11 for this marker.  This group also has values
of 20,21 at YCA marker, a finding which is almost as reliable as the DYS568 marker for identifying the DYS568
group.

The persons listed here appear in phylogenetic diagrams created by the special DNA software program
Fluxus within the overall DYS568=9 grouping that consists of four clades.  DYS568= 9 clades are the
northern English clade, the North Carolina clade, the Ashkenazi Jewish clade, and the English-Italian clade.  
Fluxus software gives special weighting to slowest mutating markers and has been very successful in sorting
67-marker samples into actual clusters confirmed by SNP testing.  These men here failed to cluster with the 
four specific clades.  It is not known if they are the sole survivors of lines that are rare today or whether they
belong to clades which lack other samples in our database.

Unfortunately there is presently no SNP test that will identify anyone in this group with specificity.
Group members can be identified solely by the combination of marker values they share with each other.
This group on this page is genetically closest to the large DYS388=13 group.  This latter group seems to have
originated within a common group about 2500 yrs ago.  This "13" group also is related within this time period
to men today living in the Georgia-Russian border area of the Caucasus Mountains.  Insufficient detailed samples
from this region are available to determine if the DYS568=9 group is also represented today in the Caucasus Mtns. 
However, the Goossens sample below is an exact 12-marker match to an anonymous G Armenian sample in the
Family Tree DNA database.  This suggests an even closer, more recent relationship of the men here to the Armenia
man than to the "13" group.  Some other DYS568= 9 men here match the Armenian 11 of 12 markers.

The G2a3b1 status means the men will be positive in special SNP testing for general G (M201)
and G2 (P287) and G2a (P15) and for G2a3 (U8 or S126 or L30) and for G2a3b (L141) and for
G2a3b1 (P303)
The status of the men here with regard to the three subgroups of G2a3b1 is negative for the 
three subgroups of G2a3b1 based on testing within the DYS568= 9 group.   

For information on what is known of the origins of the overall DYS568=9 group and migrations and time
relationships to other G groupings link to the migration-time page .

We have had to remove several men from this page who seemed in their 12-marker samples to be part of this
group because they tested negative for P303.  But with more markers it was obvious they were not part of
this group.  Membership in the DYS568=9 grouping can be especially difficult to determine at times.

Loss #54596 is reported by the lab as P15-, but the other Loss as P303+ which presumes P15+.  This is an
impossibility, and the marker values are consistent only with a P303+ person.

Ambroselli has a unique situation where he has the characteristic 20,21 for YCA but he lacks information
as to DYS568.  On the phylogenetic network he clusters with this group but is on a longer branch from them.
This perhaps may be accounted for in part by the absence of a value for DYS568.

The research study referenced below is Imen Ayadi et. al., "Haplotypes for 13 Y-Chromosomal STR Loci
in Southern Tunisian Population (Sfax Region), Forensic Science International, 2006, vol 164(2-3),
pp 249-253. 

The YHRD database is a collection of samples submitted by scientists worldwide.

The italicized 11 value for DYS426 below is only predicted but virtually all G persons have this value.

The subgroups below likely group together the men most closely related, but criteria are not ironclad because the
markers used to classify the subgroups have a medium rate of mutating and a person outside the subgroup could
mutate in or out of it.


Recommended additional deep ancestry testing for men here with the interest and funds for this:

Upgrading to 67 markers for deep ancestry purposes is almost always useful in helping to better establish
relationships and time calculations to a common ancestor.  For deep ancestry purposes only one
person in a surname project needs to upgrade.  However, the additional markers may be useful within a
surname project in establishing family branches.

All tested persons in the DYS568=9 group have tested positive for the P303 SNP which characterizes G2a3b1.
The outcome of such testing for all the samples listed below is very predictable as P303+ and, in my
opinion, unnecessary.   SNP testing can be ordered as what is called the deep clade SNP test in the
haplotree section of the individual Family Tree DNA results page.  P303 (G2a3b1) is included in this deep
clade test.  
 
There is no hint that the men here are positive for either of the currently three known P303 subgroups.  One
(G2a3b1b - L43) is found only in DYS388= 13 persons, and the other (G2a3b1a - U1) was found
negative in one of the men below.   Multiple DYS568=9 person were found negative for L139 (G2a3b1c).
These three mutations occur only within certain other G2a3b1 groups, and everyone in the DYS568=9
group will almost certainly have the same negative results for these three tests.

So ordering any of these additional tests (U1, L43, L139) is, in my opinion, not a good use of money for men
on this page who are firmly identified as belonging to the DYS568= 9 group.
