Explanation of this clade
Please note that all references to the old terminology for this group have been changed here to
say G2a.  Some other locations on the Internet may still use the old term, G2.

One G2a member of this clade was found to be positive for the U8 mutation (Garvey project)
but negative for U1, U13 and U16.  It is presumed that the other members of the clade are in this
same category, thus U8*  These findings are new and have not yet been given a G classificationm but
logically would be G2a3*.

As with the mostly Ashkenazi G2c clade, there is considerable geographical intermixing seen here.
One theory is that travel to distant locations to attend Yeshiva schools may have caused this
feature.

Since no member of this clade has been found outside central and northeastern Europe,
the ancestor may have come directly from the peoples of northeastern Europe instead
of the Middle East.

Of use in subdividing this clade are the slowly mutating markers.  Since the men
in the clade are relatively recently related within the overall G population, the chances of one of the
slower mutating markers reverting twice to another value within the time period of the existence
of this clade are rather slim.

From a mutation in DYS437 two subgroups resulted:
Those with value of 17 form the 1st subgroup -- Beshert, Toren, Bograchev, and Shanas
Those with the value of 16 belong to the other subgroup..

This subgrouping with specific marker values is actually more reliable than the diagram
above in showing relationships.  In the next version of this diagram, I will overweight this marker
so that the relationships are more clearly shown.

Presently only (1) 67-marker sample is available.  Additional subgroups may be identified by
slow-marker differences within the additional markers, but multiple samples are needed to
arrive at any conclusions.
