DEAL FAMILY HISTORY NOTES

Frederick DEAL family notes

Frederick Deal and Lucinda Easter.
Marriage date from: INDIANA STATE LIBRARY Genealogy Division Database to an Index of Indiana Marriages Through 1850 -- http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html [from Suzanne Deal Sellers]

Frederick Deal and Elizabeth Randall.
Marriage date from: INDIANA STATE LIBRARY Genealogy Division Database to an Index of Indiana Marriages Through 1850 -- http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html. In the Mary Deal Rader book (1941) her name is listed as Betsy Schott [from: Suzanne Deal Sellars]

Taken from the L.D.S. (Mormon) Church transcription of the 1880 U.S. Federal Census -- Curry, Sullivan County, Indiana, N.A. film #T-9-0312, page no. 441B -- supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars:
[Abbreviations: M=male, F=female, W=white, fath=father, moth=mother]
DEAL
-- Fredric -- Self -- married -- M -- W -- 52 -- NC -- Farmer -- NC -- NC
-- Hanah -- Wife -- married -- F -- W -- 48 -- IN -- Keeping -- house -- PA -- OH
-- William -- Son -- single -- M -- W -- 19 -- IN -- Farm -- Laborer -- NC -- IN
-- Louisa -- Dau -- single -- F -- W -- 16 -- IN -- [blank] -- NC -- IN
-- Grant -- Son -- single -- M -- W -- 11 -- IN -- Farm -- Laborer -- NC -- IN
-- Ida -- Dau -- single -- F -- W -- 9 -- IN -- [blank] -- NC-- IN
-- David -- Son -- single -- M -- W -- 2 -- IL -- [blank] -- NC -- IN
HINES
-- Timothy -- Other -- single -- M -- W -- 24 -- Holland -- Farm -- Laborer -- Holland -- Holland
(Fredric thru David have last name of Deal. I presume that Grant Deal, age 11, is the same as Willis Grant Deal in Deal genealogy, but who is David Deal? Could have died young and Rader missed him in her "G"? At least this census does confirm that Fredric was probably in IL in 1878.

Silas DEAL family notes

Silas Deal obituary
from: "Terre Haute Tribune," Tuesday, March 24, 1914, p. 2:
"SILAS P. DEAL
Silas P. Deal, 84 years old, died Monday [23 March 1914] afternoon at his home, 839 South Ninth street. Surviving are his wife, two sons, John, of Terre Haute, and Jesse, of near Farmersburg, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grand-[they omitted children]. The funeral will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday [25 March 1914] morning from the Friendship church, west of Farmersburg."

(Notes on Sarah Barbre: "died 19 June 1866, aged 33 yrs 5 mo 5 days" also buried in Friendship Cem as Silas is. Silas calls her Sarah Barbre in his pension application. She has one tombstone beside Silas's which says "Barbara, wife of Silas P. Deal, Died June 19, 1866, Aged 33 yrs, 5 Mo. & 5 days" Then on Silas' tombstone on one side there is an inscription, "Sarah Barbre, wife of Silas P. Deal, Born Jan. 14, 1833, Died...."[I cannot read the rest of inscription from photo]. For some reason the first stone was not cut correctly. --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Additions for Silas's living children by Sarah Barbre from Silas pension application:

1. [male] "Jesse M. Deal Born Aug 10 1857"

2. [male] "John S Deal Born Nov 8 1863"
--(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Additions from Sharon Mills' photos in Friendship Cem. "Mary B., daughter of ...[I cannot read from photo], Deal, Died July 21, 1860, Age 8 days." Sharon listed this child as a child of Silas and Sarah in her article. I have no idea if this Mary B. is the same as Rader lists as Samatha, or if Mary B. is another daughter. --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

In Silas' pension file his address on death cert. and one other document is listed as 939 S.. 9th, in Terre Haute, IN. In two other documents in his pension file and his obit., (which I also have) lists his address as 839 S. 9th. You will see this address again in the obit of one of Silas' sons. --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Additions for Silas' second wife, Hannah Thompson: From pension file and Friendship Cem. photo affidavit 17 August 1914 by R. Chase Creson in pension file from his visit to Friendship Cemetery: "Hannah Thompson, wife of Silas P. Deal, born Sept. 3" 1828, died July 25" 1899." She also has her own tombstone above, and then an inscription of the side of Silas' tombstone. The inscription on the side of Silas' tombstone from photo reads: "Hannah Thomson [no P in this version] Wife of Silas P. Deal Born Sept. 3, 1828, Died...[I cannot read the rest from photo] --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Additions for Silas's third wife, Naomi Hood Stanton: Naomi, according to affidavit in pension file, was Naomi Hood; she married Riley Stanton. Riley Stanton died 17 March 1892 in Vigo Co., IN. She was a widow when she married Silas. According to pension file, she died Jan'y 22, 1919. Her obit gives same death date with death in Terre Haute, IN. --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Information taken from familysearch.org for 1880 U.S. Federal census, Curry Township, Sullivan County, Indiana (NA Film Number T9-0312, page no. 441B):
DEAL
-- Silas -- Self -- married -- M -- W -- 50 -- NC -- Farmer -- NC -- NC
-- Hanna -- Wife -- married -- F -- W -- 57 -- IN -- Keeping House -- KY -- OH
-- John -- Son -- single -- M -- 17 -- IN -- Farm Laborer -- NC -- IN

(Note: Hanah's age is five years off in this census as compared to tombstone, but 2s and 7s are sometimes hard to distinguish in script. Silas' birthdate does agree and so does John's with Silas' pension application. --(Info supplied by Suzanne Deal Sellars)

Elizabeth Hazelrigg / Charles Albert Deal notes

Notes of Suzanne Deal Sellars: Supposedly wife of Charles Albert Deal, the adopted son of Fredrick Deal.
"Sullivan County Indiana, Vol. I & Vol. II" Notes by Suzanne Deal Sellers at Dallas Pub. Lib. on 18 Spt 1997.
Vol. I, p. 83 -- "Little Flock Cemetery, Hamilton Township, Sullivan County, Indiana
Recorded: October 1981
Location: NE 1/4 NE 1/4 4--8--9 and NE 1/4 NW 1/4 3--8--9 [last 3 numbers should be Section, Twp., & Range.-SDS]
Deal, Elizabeth Hazelrigg -- w/o Albert died Aug. 14, 1888."
This was the date in one of old Deal genealogy copies that I have, so date on tombstone agrees with date of Deal genealogy. I do not have a marriage for this couple. Did Charles Albert Deal go by the name of Albert? I don't know.
