OBITUARIES

ANDREW H. BEACH
Death notice
Wood County Sentinel (Ohio), 2 July 1885

Milton is booming with preparations for the 4th. But in the midst of joy comes sadness. A dispatch was received last evening announcing the death of Andy Beach of this place. He has for sometime past been Librarian in the Penitentiary at Joliet, Illinois. He visited his parents and friends here but a few weeks ago and returned feeling well as usual. The sad news has cast a gloom over our village. His remains are expected home to day.

MARGARET POLLOCK BEACH
Obituary
Wood County Sentinel (Ohio), 7 September 1905

Margaret Pollock, daughter of Hugh and Eleanor Pollock, was born at Mansfield, O., May 28, 1818, died at Milton Center, O., August 25, 1905.

Her parents were pioneer settlers of Richland County, O. Her father was born in Scotland. Her mother was born in Harrison county, O. They being devout members of the Scotch Covenanter church, their children early in life imbibed their teaching.

In July 5, 1838, Margaret Pollock was married to John McComb Beach who was also a native of Ohio, having been born at Mansfield, O.

They had seven children, two died in infancy and the only son, Andrew H., died twenty years ago in Chicago. Mrs. Francis B. Hathaway died at her home in Ottawa, O., less than three years ago. Three daughters are living. Mrs. Sarah B. Sherburne, of Whitehouse, O.; Mrs. Mary H. Wade of Rudolph, and Miss Armina E. Beach of Milton Center, O. There are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In 1852 Mr. and Mrs. Beach removed to Bellefontaine, O. In 1873 they came to Milton Center. Mr. Beach's death occured in January 5, 1892. Since then Mrs. Beach, with her daughter have lived in the home.

It seems that the passing away of this lovely woman needs more than a mere notice. She was devoutly patriotic and loyal to every call of duty. Her grandfather was a soldier in the American Revolution. Her father in the war of 1812 and her only son in the Civil War.

During the last war, she was a member of the Aid Society in Bellefontaine which cared for sick and disabled soldiers in hospitals which could be reached and several times she, with other members, was delegated to convey dainty food and comforts to Camp Dennison, O. At on etime she spent three months as a matron in the Camp Dennison hospital and when she left brought home with her a sick soldier boy whome she cared for until he was able to go to this home in East Tennessee.

While living in Bellefontaine Mr. and Mrs. Beach united with the New Church Society of that place and were faithful members and believers in that teaching. About eight years ago Mrs. Beach united with the Presbyterian church of Milton Center, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Dague, now of Doglestown, O.

Her life has been devoted to a single purpose---that of caring and doing for others---self was forgotten when duty was seen.

"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

Her funeral service on Sunday at 2 p.m. and conducted very impressively by Rev. Lawrence, of Tontoany, was very largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings gave mute evidence of the loving remembrance of her many loyal friends.

Internment in the Milton cemetery
