The Republic of Suriname (Republiek Suriname) is located in northern South America. Its neighbors are Guayana to the west, Brazil to the south and French Guiana to the east. To the north is the Atlantic Ocean. Before its independence from the Netherlands in 1975 it was known as Dutch Guiana (Nederlands Guyana). It is a country rich in history and a microcosm of the world's peoples and religions: Hindustanis (from India), Creoles (Black and White ancestors), Javanese (from Indonesia), Maroons (from Africa), Chinese, Amerindians, Europeans (Dutch, French, English, etc), Roman Catholics, Hindus, Muslims, Protestant Christians (primarily Moravians), and Jews
1. How to subscribe.
Send the command "subscribe" to
SURINAME-L-request@rootsweb.com.
It is best NOT to include anything else in the body of the message. This includes an automatic signature. Just have the word, subscribe.
2. How to unsubscribe.
Send a message to:
SURINAME-L-request@rootsweb.com
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
3. How to subscribe or change to digest mode (several postings are combined and
sent to you together as a single large message).
There are two
steps.
First, send the command "unsubscribe" to
SURINAME-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode.
Second,
send the command "subscribe" to SURINAME-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests.
4. How to change to NOMAIL mode.
There is no formal NOMAIL mode.
All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe
when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them
to start again, simply subscribe again.
5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing
list receives it:
just send it to SURINAME-L-request@rootsweb.com. It
will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode.
You don't need to send it explicitly to both. In order to prevent/curb spamming we have made this a closed list. What that means is that if you want to send a message to the list you have to subscribe to it. If you just want to send one message but don't want to remain on the list you have the option of subscribing, sending in your message, and then unsubscribing. ALTHOUGH WE HOPE YOU'LL STICK AROUND!!!
It's as simple as that. We hope you'll give the list a try.
If some kind soul would be willing to translate the five points above on subscribing and unsubscribing to this list into Dutch I would be eternally grateful! My Dutch is limited to basic phrases and words.
