Rock'n Readers

Our first grade reading vocabulary list has 338 words. This is a list of words that are high frequency words and should be known immediately when seen. Many of them are sight words, which do not follow phonetic rules. Therefore, sight words should not be sounded out each time they are encountered. 

I have divided the 338 words into 24 lists. Beginning second quarter, I will send the list home with your child. We will begin with List One. Since each child proceeds at his/her own developmental pace, it may take some children longer to learn the list than it takes other children. As your child learns the words on the list, I will test him/her. As your child masters each list, they may begin learning the next one. If there are words missed on a list, it will be sent home to practice and try again.

All 24 lists must be mastered by the end of the year. When all lists are mastered, your child will become a member of the Rock'n Readers Club. They will receive special recognition and a "Rock'n Readers" t-shirt.
