Description
The Historic Crail Ranch is the oldest original building in Big Sky, MT and is open to visitors.  The unique log structure preserves the story of Augustus Franklin Crail family and their life in the Big Sky community in the early 1900's.

Augustus Franklin Crail (Frank) moved his family to Gallatin Canyon Basin (now called Big Sky) in 1902, after he purchased the small cabin and a 160 acre homestead from Daniel Inabit for less than $1.00 per acre.  Over the next four decades, the family built a two-story house and ranched most of what is now Meadow Village.  Frank's son, Emmett Crail, lived on the ranch until 1950 when he sold the property to Jack and Elaine Hume.  The Humes installed the first modern plumbing, including a bathroom.  The cabin served as living quarters for Big Sky (Boyne) resort workers in the 1980's.

A visit to our living history site will give you an authentic view of life as a western pioneer and the splendor of the old west.

Directions
The Historic Crail Ranch is located in the Meadow Village area of Big Sky just off Spotted Elk Road.  Follow US highway 191 south from Bozeman or north from West Yellowstone.  Turn west at the light onto the Big Sky Spur Road (Highway 64) and continue approximately 2 miles until you reach Little Coyote Road.  Turn right onto Little Coyote and follow it until Spotted Elk appears on the left.  Historic Crail Ranch is on the left-hand side of Spotted Elk Road, set back from the roadway.
