The Redbird

The warriors began their journey home with the "Daughter of the Sun",
their capture.  They had journeyed for several days and had
listened to her cry and cry. She was saying that she couldn’t breathe.
They went on and they noticed that the girl had become quiet.
They didn’t know what to do at first. The little people
had told them not one warrior was to open the box until they
made it home.

One warrior's curiosity
got to him and opened the box slightly.

All of a sudden they heard a “kwish kwish” and the redbird soared
into the sky with the warriors trying to capture her.  But, they failed.
That is why we can’t bring people back from the spirit world.
The Sun cried and cried, and her tears caused a great flood.
But, when the Sun saw the little redbird, she came out of her
lodge and began to shine brightly – and we are still here.
