Scalp Dance

After the warriors returned home from battle, the people would gather at the council house
to honor the returning warriors and listen to their war deeds. This was an important moment
to the people. The women would carry poles with the red painted scalps hung hoops and
they would dance. The war chief would whisper to the drummer of his deeds and the
drummer start his war song. All the warriors would repeat this, as the dance would go on
for a long time with everyone whooping and beating their shields.
There was much exhilaration and excitement.
