JUST PLAIN OLD IMAGES
"Just Plain Old Images"
In my solitude I pine,
as my thoughts go back in time,
recalling vivid memories that still last.
I compare life of today
in a pensive sort of way,
the bulging of the present-from the past.
The air was different then,
there was fragrance in the wind,
instead of hazy smoke and deadly fumes,
when everyone could breathe
the freshness of the breeze,
and all around grew mother nature's blooms.
When children walked to school..
to learn the golden rule,
and not by the rules of "How To", Sex!
We were taught in my "hey day"
to do what's right and pray:
to live the good, and clean life God expects.
When folks could walk the street..
as night-time shadows creep,
and no one knew the fear of being harmed;
but in modern times today,
you best not stroll or stray,
unless you are bold and safely armed!
And I miss my dear old friends,
and my fondness never ends,
only images of faces come my way;
it's been so long ago,
and a lot of rain and snow,
has fallen since I left that saddened day!
Back in1948,
I left my tar-heel state.
Adventure was my calling - way back then.
but little did I know
that my life would end up so,
and the golden years have now entered in.
Yet, I'm grateful, yes I am,
for the length of my life's span,
and in my heart I know the world must change;
But I wish is wasn't so,
about the status-quo,
I'm just hoping that it gets re-arranged.
Now, I know it's hard to do,
and God will see me through,
to bear this status quo and all it's stain.
So, when I'm all alone
in the comfort of my home,
come images of yesteryear again!
