                                                     G2a3b1b1 individuals (DYS388=13) 


The G2a3b1b1 status means G2a3b1b1 men will be positive in special SNP testing for general G (M201)
and G2 (P287) and G2a (P15) and for G2a3 (U8 or S126 or L30) and for G2a3b (L141) and for
G2a3b1 (P303) and for G2a3b1b (L43 or S147) and for G2a3b1b1 (L42 or S146).

Except for those in the same surname project, there is no guarantee that the men below who have not
been tested for L42 will be found to be positive.  However, those listed here are close genetic matches to
L42 persons and are more likely to be L42 than many other DYS388= 13 men.

Half of the men in this group who were positive for L42 or S146 have Swiss ancestry.  This geographical
pattern may or may not be coincidental.

The research study mentioned below is Pierre Zalloua et al., "Identifying genetic traces of historical
expansions: Phoenician footprints in the Mediterranean
," American Journal of Human Genetics,
2008, vol 83(5), pp 633-42.  The italicized 11 for marker DYS426 indicates a predicted value.  So
far all G persons have 11 for this marker.

The Swiss man, Rufener, shares a common male ancestor with some men with British surnames
sometime in the middle of the Middle Ages.  This Anglo-Swiss co-ancestry is found in other
DYS388=13 groupings.


Recommended additional deep ancestry testing for men here with the interest and funds for this:

Upgrading to 67 markers for deep ancestry purposes can be useful in helping to better establish
relationships and time calculations to a common ancestor.  However, we now have a large number of
DYS388=13 samples, and the full 67 markers seem to have no specific use for them for deep
ancestry subgrouping here.  However, the additional markers may be useful within a surname project in
establishing family branches.

While a few men on this page have been confirmed as G2a3b1b1, there is no guarantee that the other
men listed on this page have the same status except those within the same surname project.  The other men
are listed here solely because they are genetically near to men who are G2a3b1b1. 

The L42 test needed to confirm G2a3b1b1 status is available at Family Tree DNA on the results page.  One
goes to the Order Tests section, and chooses advanced orders.  Then on the SNP tests page, L42 will be
found near the top of the page for $29US.  Only one person within a surname projects needs to be tested
because all will have the same results.   The L43 test is not necessary if proven L42+.  [Those who had S146
tested at Ethnoancestry do not need to test either L42 because this is same exact test.]
