                                                            Haplogroup G Project
                              DNA Results and Groupings

G2a3b1 persons partly like the DYS568= 9 group and
partly like the DYS388=13 group type

The men listed here represent samples found on the 67-marker phylogenetic diagram which consistently fall
between those men who form the large DYS388=13 group and those men who form was is described
as the DYS568= 9 group.  The diagrams produced by special DNA software by Fluxus --
using 67-marker samples --aggregates together fairly accurately those belonging to the same
subhaplogroup.  There are three groups shown on this page who fall between the two larger groups.  One is so
far very Polish.  The other is of mixed origins.  However, the Banks man in the latter group is a candidate for
being from the Austerbank family of Germanic origin -- they changed their surname in the USA.  If this is the
original surname for theses Bankses, the 2nd group would presently be mostly Germanic.  The three groups shown
on this page are not closely related.  And within the so-called non-Polish group there is considerable distance
to the common male ancestor as indicated by the variation in the YCA values.  These are frequently the same
value among men related in the last 1500 years.  The availability of any additional samples pertaining to the men
here on this page would likely cause the description of the groups on this page to be rewritten because so little
is currently known.

The Stahl sample is much closer to the DYS568=9 group than to the DYS388=13 group according to the
Fluxus software.  Ignoring the special weighting given by the software,  he is closest instead to the DYS388= 13
group.

For information on what is known of the origins of the overall G2a3b1 group and migrations and time
relationships to other G groupings link to the migration-time page .

The G2a3b1 status means G2a3b men will be positive in special SNP testing for general G (M201)
and G2 (P287) and G2a (P15) and G2a3 (U8 or S126 or L30)  and G2a3b (L141) and for
G2a3b1 (P303).  One of the men here is known negative for the first subgroup of Ga23b1 through
a negative test for U1.

The men here clearly do not have the marker values associated with two SNP subgroups of G2a3b1 or of
two subgroups defined by having DYS568=9 or DYS388=13.  Their status with regard to one SNP
subgroup characterized by being positive for U1 is still undetermined, as is their status with regard to
an experimental SNP L140 which may or may not have the same coverage as P303.

Where the DYS426 value is shown in italics, this is only predicted.  Virtually all G persons have a
value of 11 for this.

The YHRD database is a collection of samples submitted by scientists worldwide.

Recommended additional deep ancestry testing for men here with the interest and funds for this:

Upgrading to 67 markers does have value for persons on this page because it will help to more accurately establish
relationships and time calculations with common ancestors.

Because multiple persons below have tested positive for the P303 SNP which characterizes G2a3b1, it is very
likely everyone listed here with more than 12 markers will likewise be the same.  SNP testing can be ordered
as what is called the deep clade SNP test in the haplotree section of the individual Family Tree DNA results
page.  P303 (G2a3b1) is included in this deep clade test.

The status of these men with regard to one subgroup of G2a3b1 is yet to be defined.  This test, U1, can be ordered
at Family Tree DNA on the results page in the Order Tests section.  This is an advanced test.  When the SNP box
is checked, this test will appear at the top of the page and can be ordered for $29US each.    Also found there is L140.
Theoretically men in this grouping on this page would be positive for this because it seems to be positive in all G2a3b1 men,
but the lack of a SNP or marker oddity to identify the men here means it is possible that one or the other men might
be negative for L140, and that would mean they belong to a new group.
