A Britain-ancestry G2a3b2 grouping
The oldest common male ancestor of the men listed on this
page probably lived in the Middle Ages or a
little later. In
contrast, their nearest genetic neighbors share a common ancestor with them
probably
several thousand years ago or earlier. Most of the samples here
pertain to men who claim an Irish ancestry.
Because there are as yet no
men who share ancestors with the men here until 2000 or so years,
it is
difficult to predict how they arrived in the British Isles or in what time
period.
The G2a3b2 status means G2a3 men will be
positive in special SNP testing for general G (M201)
and G2
(P287) and G2a (P15) and for G2a3 (U8 or S126 or L30) and for L141
(G2a3b). And
one man here is positive for L177
(G2a3b2). It is to be determined if all of the Athey family has
this mutation or just one
man.
The Whitfield/Whitefield
samples which are genetically close to the Atheys are negative for L177.
The diagrams produced by special DNA software by Fluxus --
using 67-marker samples --
aggregates together
fairly accurately those belonging to the same subhaplogroup. On such
diagrams,
the men listed below cluster together on a
single branch and are quite distant genetically from
other men on the
diagram. In the various versions of the diagram as more samples were
added,
the branch on which these men appear has moved about but often appears
as an offshoot of the
large DYS388=13
clade. This is apparently coincidental because the DYS388=13 clade
and
genetically adjacent groups are all positive for the
P303 SNP -- a situation notsharedbythe<BR>men here.
Below
several markers are highlighted with a blue background to show
subgroupings
within the overall group. The change in the DYS19 marker
value is more significant, and the
sharing of the new 15 value is not likely to have
occurred by coincidence twice in the same group.
Whit Athey, from this
group, indicates that the mutation in DYS570 from 17 to 16 occurred in
Robert Athey who was
born abt. 1725. The samples with the new 16 value are highlighted by
a
gray background. It is should also be noted that an uncommon mutation to
15 occurred in
some men for marker DYS19 (also highlighted). If the
info about Robert Athey is correct,
it is quite unexpected that the change to
15 for DYS19 in one man within the Robert Athey group
and one man outside the
group. The DYS19
marker is not a fast-mutating marker.
