Hand Screw "Clamp Assistant" for those tough band
saw cuts

(Jorgenson hand screw clamp)
Have you ever tried to make the "tall" cuts on a project that was just a bit too long for your clamp?
I've tried other ways but my small hand clamp is the best, but sometimes
it's just too short for (example) my baby
alligator and the lizard. I think I finally figured it out, one of those things that are so simple you wonder why you didn't think of it long ago...
First I open my Jorgensen size 3 hand screw clamp, hereafter known as the hand clamp... wider than the piece of wood I'm working on. With the clamp at the back of the band saw blade and the wood at the front, screw in the front of the clamp to grab the wood behind the area to be cut.
This will work with either the top cuts or the side cuts (if the wood isn't too big.
I would highly recommend you use the clamp for both top and side cuts, it really keeps those cuts straight.
This works great, even if the clamp is mostly off the band saw table!
No, I wasn't really cutting this, it was just for an example. You could probably use a larger sized clamp if needed, but I'm sure the small one will work fine for those long snakes.
I've included enough hints to try to get you to check out my plans,
what the heck, I think I'll even put some links on the bottom of the page
:-). I hope you can use this, maybe even send me one of your favorite
woodwork tips for my tips and hints page.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, Leonard
