About the Sheriff's Reserve
The Mayes County Sheriff's Reserve is comprised of over 30 individuals from throughout the community. These men and women are dedicated to providing the highest quality reserve law enforcement to the citizens of Mayes County.
This resource of highly trained individuals assist the paid Sheriff's staff in areas of Patrol, Criminal Warrants, Criminal Investigation, and Search Warrant Service,. Assistance is also provided to the Jail and Communication Divisions of the Sheriff's Department on an as-needed basis. In addition to regular law enforcement assignments, Reserve Deputies contribute security hours to charitable events and local governmental meetings These officers are part-time, unpaid, fully certified Oklahoma Peace Officers that assume the same duties as a regular paid Deputy while on duty.
Reserve Deputies must complete the same training as full-time paid Deputies. Each is CLEET certified as a Peace Officer. Firearms qualifications must be met . Continuing education opportunities are available.
Reservists come from all walks of life. Some previously worked as regular peace officers and some have moved from Reserve to Full-time, paid status with local departments. Most are in private employment outside the department on a full-time basis and contribute hours during their off-times. Reserve Deputies must work at least 16 hours per month, though many submit far in excess of that amount, resulting in a considerable savings for Mayes County taxpayers. Reservists are also on-call 24 hours per day for emergencies and special assignments.
