To join the Haplogroup G mailing list and discussion forum at the free site, Rootsweb, click here. You must type the word Subscribe in the message section before sending the e-mail. You will receive a return e-mail which also explains how to UNsubscribe. This discussion group is used primarily to announce important news and receives perhaps a dozen postings a month. All postings are publicly available and subscribers are not allowed to discuss other topics to minimize e-mails received by subscribers. Old postings there can be viewed by linking to the G Group Archives. A second G discussion group receives many more monthly postings and mailings, and topics discussed cover a broader range of topics somehow related to haplogroup G. While this group is a private Yahoo group, be warned that members theoretically could include your e-mail in a posting to a public forum. You will also have to obtain a password from Yahoo (if none currently available) as part of the process of joining the discussions. Contact Peter Christy for information on how to join this group. There is also a G2c discussion group at Yahoo. Contact Ted Kandell for information on how to join this group. For queries about general DNA things, it may be most appropriate to subscribe to the general DNA forum at Rootsweb, then writing at the start of the e-mail titles of your postings "Newbie Question:." in order that someone knows you need assistance. If you are a G person who was tested at Family Tree DNA or his representative, you can join the Haplogroup G project. On your results page, there is a join button at the top left. Go all the way down the page and choose the haplogroup G project under Y-DNA projects. Those tested at Family Tree DNA please do not forget also to upload your results to the Y-Search database. On your results page under "Y-matches" tab there is an upload command in the middle of the page. When new test results are received, this upload process must be repeated. The availability of the test results in the G project and at Y-Search in a manner respecting privacy of the tested person has allowed considerable advances in determining deep ancestry origins and groupings of haplogroup G persons. If you were tested at another lab, you cannot join the haplogroup G project because the lab automatically generates test results from its database. However, adding your results to the public Y-Search database will accomplish much the same purpose if you were tested outside Family Tree DNA. Please be careful to recheck each number entered at Y-Search and note the need for conversions of certain values obtained from other labs. Not certain you belong to haplogroup G? Dr.Whit Athey's haplogroup predictor can identify most G persons. |
