History: Current US 264-A was created between 1980-84, running from US 264/NC 39 near Zebulon east to US 264 east of Sims. This was a replacement for US 264 Bus, and is the 4th US 264-A.

In 2004, US 264-A was extended east through Wilson, replacing US 264, and connecting with US 264-A #5, combining the two routes.

The route: The 1st US 264-A was for Wilson and was created between 1948-50 as a renumbering of mainline US 264. US 264 Bypass utilized today's US 264-A Ward Blvd around the southside of Wilson.
US 264-A used Raleigh Rd to Nash St.
This route was part of original NC 91
This US 264-A was renumbered as US 264 Business in 1960. Today this route is all secondary.

The route: The 2nd US 264-A was for Greenville and was created in 1953 or 1954 as a renumbering of mainline US 264. US 264 Bypass utilized today's US 264-A Greenville Blvd around the soutside of Greenville.
US 264-A used Dickenson Ave to E. 10th St.
This route was part of original NC 91
This US 264 was renumbered as US 264 Business in 1960. Except for a small part of US 13, this is now secondary routing.

The route: The 3rd US 264-A was for Farmville and was created in 1953 or 1954 as a renumbering of mainline US 264. US 264 Bypass utilized today's US 264-A Marlboro around the southside of Farmville
US 264-A used Moye-Turnage Rd and Wilson St.
This route was part of original NC 91
This US 264-A was eliminated between 1985-90. East of US 258 has been secondary ever since. West of US 258 became part of NC 121.

U.S. 264-A   absorbed
The route: The 5th US 264-A was for Farmvile/Greenville and was created between 1985-90 as a renumbering of mainline US 264. US 264 had utilized today's US 264-A Greenville Blvd around the southside of Farmville and Greenville. This was created when US 264 was put on Wesley Chapel Rd. and new freeway leading to Greenville.

Only a small piece of this was part of original NC 91
US 264-A was extended west to the other side of Farmville, replacing more of US 264 between 1991-93.
In 2001 or 2002, US 264-A was extended further west to the eastern end of Wilson, replacing a small part of NC 121 and several miles of NC 91 (the US 264 freeway had already been there a little while).
This US 264-A was attached to US 264-A #4 in 2004.
