| The route: | The current US 64 Business for Morganton was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 64-A. Originally followed Burkemont Rd. north to Union St. (which was US 70 Business) then east out of town. Burkemont was once NC 181 and Union St. was once original NC 10.
US 64 Business was rerouted about 1989, leaving US 70 Business Union St. and following NC 18 north out of town. |

| The route: | US 64 Business for Williamston was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 64-A. Prior to the late 50's it was mainline US 64, and historically has been part of NC 90. Ran along Main St, then south along Washington St (US 17 Bus-NC 125) for a second, then east on Sycamore St. to leave town. US 64 Business split into 1 way streets for a block south of Main St (US 17 Business-NC 125 still does this).
US 64 Business did not make it past 1975 (I went to Williamston twice a year from 1975-1993) and may have been disestablished sooner. A lone US 64 Bypass sign existed for a while on US 64 WB (now US 64-A) approaching the original Williamston Bypass. The NC Official Maps have been erroneously showing Main St. west of downtown as a primary highway for years. |

| The route: | US 64 Business for Statesville was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 64-A. Prior to the late 50's it was mainline US 64, as well as pieces of US 70 and US 21. US 64 Bypass utilized the I-40 corridor from around the US 64/NC 90 exit (exit 148) east to exit 153 and possibly today's SR 1164.
US 64 Business used Front St into central Statesville, then jogged north on Tradd St to Davie Ave heading east out of town. This route was part of original NC 10, original NC 75, and later NC 90. This US 64 Business was returned to mainline US 64 likely between 1964-68.

| The route: | US 64 Business for Wendell and Zebulon was created in 1960 or 1961 as a renumbering of mainline US 64. Originally it began at NC 97's current west end and dipped southeast to Wendell, using Wilson St. and Wendell Ave then juked back up Mack Todd Rd to end at the Zebulon town limit where NC 97 is now.
By 1975, US 64 Business was lengthened on both ends, as the current US 64 freeway was built, west along Wendell Ave to the new freeway, and east along NC 97 Gannon Ave to Zebulon, then north on NC 96 N. Arendell Ave back out to the US 64 freeway. US 64 Business west of NC 96 had all been original NC 90. The NC 96 portion was part of original NC 91.

| The route: | US 64 Business for Hayesville was created between 1960-63 as a renumbering of mainline US 64. Uses "Old Hwy 64, Herbert St, and Main St. to run up to Hayesville and back down.
This could have briefly been US 64-A in 1959. The western half of US 64 Business was the original NC 109 and later became the original NC 28. The eastern half uses routing that was created in the 1940's (the old route was Myers Chapel Rd), so it may have only been part of today's NC 69 if anything.

| The route: | US 64 Business for Raleigh was created about 1964 as a renumbering of mainline US 64. US 64 Bypass utilized the Beltline around the north side of Raleigh.
US 64 Business used Western Blvd and Boylan Ave to E. South St., then north on East St to New Bern Ave. By 1972, US 64 Bus had a small split into one-way streets, using Edenton St. This route was part of original NC 90 This US 64 Business was downgraded to city street between 1974-79.

| The route: | US 64 Business for Nashville was created between 1964-68, replacing an unnumbered route, which had been mainline US 64 at one time. When the current US 64 Bypass to the north was built in 1962 or 1963, the route through town was downgraded to secondary status.
US 64 Business follows Western Ave to Barnes St to Washington St to Eastern Ave to SR 1003 back out to the US 64 freeway. The SR 1003 piece was never part of US 64 or its ancestors, but the rest of US 64 Business was once NC 90. US 64 Business in Nashville shares a brief multiplex with NC 58. |

| The route: | US 64 Business for Rocky Mount was created about 1983 as a renumbering of mainline US 64. Follows Sunset Ave, Tarboro/Thomas Sts (one-way splits), and Raleigh St. through Rocky Mount. The small connector between the US 64 freeway and Sunset Ave was new construction and may or may not have ever been mainline US 64. This had also been the route of NC 90 (even the one-way split which is shown on the 1932 Texaco Map). | |||

| The route: | US 64 Business for Columbia was in place the first time I drove out that way in 1987. It could be a good bit older, but I don't know - have never seen it on any map anywhere.
US 64 Business originally used Main St all the way through town and across the Scuppernong River. By 2003, the DeLorme and MSN online map show this bridge to be gone. MSN shows US 64 Business dropping down what had been NC 94's northernmost few blocks on Broad St. back out to the US 64-NC 94 jct. The now-unnumbered part of Main St. west of downtown was part of the original NC 90, but the east half was never NC-anything (NC 90 cut north in Columbia along Road St.) |

| The route: | US 64 Business for Manteo was created in August 2002 (per mtr post - Scott Kozel) as a renumbering of US 64-264. Runs from Manns Harbor north to the original Croatan Sound Bridge to Roanoke Island, then drops south through Manteo to end at the north end of NC 345.
The N-S portion of the route was once part of NC 345. Manns Harbor to Fort Raleigh has never been NC-anything. May have briefly been multiplexed with US 264 Business, but US 264 has been truncated to Manns Harbor. |

| U.S. 64 Business 7 miles | ||||
| The route: | US 64 Business for Knightdale opened July 8, 2005. It follows New Bern Avenue from I-440 eastward. There may also be a multiplex with I-440 to connect back up with the new US 64 freeway bypass. US 264, which has in recent years been added to US 64 from Zebulon to I-440 was moved onto the new bypass, with no 264 business designation left behind.
This was once original NC 90. |
