| The route: | US 70 Business for Lexington was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 70-A. Prior to the late 50's it was mainline US 29-70, and historically has been part of US 170 and NC 10. Ran along Main St all the way through Lexington. It was cosigned in its entirety with US 29 Business, and had a partial multiplex with NC 8. US 70 Business in Lexington was removed in 2001 or 2002, leaving behind no number except a brief excursion of NC 8. Adam Prince reports BGS on both ends on Green 85 still post this as the business route. | |||

| The route: | US 70 Business for Thomasville was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 70-A. Prior to the late 50's it was mainline US 29-70, and historically has been part of US 170 and NC 10. It used Main St and Turner Rd. to run from Pilot, to central Thomasville, then back to the current NC 68 south end. Cosigned with US 29 Business for its entire length, US 70 Business was disestablished to no number between 1964-68. | |||

| The route: | US 70 Business for Hillsborough was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 70-A. Originally it began west of Hillsborough and entered town via W. Hill Ave to King St to NC 86 and east out of town on current US 70 Business.
By 1963, US 70 Business was rerouted to start at Revere Rd and Corbin St to NC 86. |

| The route: | US 70 Business for Durham was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 70-A. Originally it began just east of NC 751, and ran east on Hillsborough Rd to 9th St, then south to Main St, then east to Duke St to Pettigrew St, then north on Pine St to Holloway St, then east to Miami Blvd, then southeast to today's US 70.
By 1963, US 70 Business was placed on north-south one way streets (Roxboro/Mangum) during its multiplex with US 15-501 Business between Pettigrew and Holloway Between 1969-84, US 70 Business was placed on north-south one way streets (Gregson/Duke) betweem Main St and Chapel Hill Rd. Between 1985-90, US 70 Business was rerouted to stay on Main St all the way to inner downtown Durham, where the route split into east-west one way streets on "The Loop". The other two one-way street setups were removed from US 70 Business. WB US 70 Business now traverses inner downtown without making any turns. In the mid-1990's US 70 Business was extended west along what was mainline US 70 west past NC 751 out to I-85 Exit 170. In the NC 147 vicinity, US 70 Business was rebuilt to be essentially the frontage road of I-85 for a little bit. |

Vernon Ave had been the route of NC 10, while Queen St had been the route of original NC 12. Multiplexed with US 258 Business for its entire length. | |||

| The route: | US 70 Business for Marshall was created in 1960 or 1961 as a renumbering of mainline US 70. Follows the French Broad River, then Ivy Creek back out to US 70 through Marshall. Until the mid-70's, US 70 Business followed the French Broad River exclusively using today's NC 251. US 70 Business is multiplexed completely with US 25 Business here. US 25-70 Business had also been the route of NC 20, except the 1970's switch along Ivy Creek. | |||

Followed Neuse Blvd from the US 70 freeway to Front St., then south across the Trent River to leave town. Not much of this had been part of NC 10. | The route: | US 70 Business for Garner appeared about 1986ish. US 70 was moved onto the newly completed I-40 south off the Raleigh Beltline, and US 70 Business was assigned to I-40/440 west from I-40 to Saunders St, and south along the 4-lane highway that is US 70 today. US 70 Business was removed by 1994, as US 70 was removed completely from the Beltline. | |||
