People Come & Go So Quickly Here!
Opened as a benefit for AIDS support group, Buzzy Boys & Girls, People Come was the show which began Lewis Routh's playwriting, directing and acting skills in New Orleans, Louisiana at Cowpokes Marigny Theatre (10303 Marigny). Lew's first production company, called Whatta LewLew Productions, kicked off its theatrical debut in New Orleans with this outrageous, gender-bending, camp comedy!
The reviews are in, and it's a HIT!
"...a relentlessly raunchy riot ...and my God, is it funny!" says New Orleans theatre critic, David Cuthbert, Times-Picayune.
Lewis Routh's wonderfully wacky & wildly delicious, trailer trash meets the Wizard of Oz, camp-comedy is back on stage in the Marigny through March 2002! See for yourself why this outrageously funny play, wherein Routh plays all the residents of a Mississippi trailer park, rated a "Surprise Package" nod in The Best of the Best 2002 Lagniappe Times Picayune.
Its original comedy and yummy double-entendres "deliver a wholloping good time with "
an infectious sense of fun," says Dalt Wonk, Theater Critic for the Gambit Weekly.
Reviews and Quotes from the New Orleans Press

"...a tour-de-force"
"...wildly exaggerated yet recognizeable caricatures"
"... Routh proves himself a clever, adept writer-actor, who gets laughs with just about everything he does"
"...People Come and Go So Quickly Here is an adults-only, double-entendre entertainment
and my God, is it funny! --David Cuthbert

"...a grand surprise of hilarious laughter and very very finely toned wit"
"...an amazing show of perfect timing, great stage presence, and writing skills that verge
on the miraculous"
"...People Come and Go So Quickly Here! is not just another drag female illusionist jab at well known theatrical icons. It's more like a stand up comedic show piece of amazing character sketches and vignettes..."
"With what seems like a wonderful simplicity Mr. Routh makes this evening of laughter and old fashioned high
comedy fly by, but if you pay attention between the laughs, you will detect a bright, subtle wit that saturates his inventions and creations like acid on etched glass." "Don't miss it. You won't see his kind of comedy again, unless he gives us the pleasure of a return performance... His is a class act from beginning to end." --Roy Patrick Shannon III
Theatre Critic, Cresecent City Chronicles, and Ambush Magazine
"People is a fun 75 minute excursion to the land of Spam and Velveeta. When an accident derails a childrens production of The Wizard of Oz, residents of the local trailer park take to the stage with a little audience help to avoid having to refund admission monies. As the parks secrets are spilled and various feuds exposed and some references to New Orleans and Southern Decadence tossed in, some characters are better etched than others but Routh is an ingratiating presence as he gives life to the entire bunch.
Its all sweet and unpretentious as though Routh is winking at the audience and saying "I know this is silly and you know this is silly but just sit back and enjoy it." And so we do, especially the finale in which Routh as the lite-on-his-feet Mr. Lew LaRoux delectably encapsulates the entire story of Oz in 4-1/2 minutes. Fabulous! " -- Brian Sands
Theatre Critic, Ambush Magazine
"...the witty and wicked script
...splashy comic gear (costumes) by Bernadette Klotz
...The inventiveness comes in the details, the surprises, the twists on the expected.
... Routh has inventiveness to spare
...he softens the sting of his satire with an infectious sense of fun."
