Oak Grove
Oak Grove
Oak Grove, located on Shivwits Plateau, was the site of a cattle ranch that was operated from the late 1800's until th 1980's. It was not a town.
Oak Grove was originally part of a large spread operated by Anthony Ivins, a Mormon rancher, banker, and mayor. The ranch was operated until the 1930's by Chet and Ed Thayne. It was then purchased by W.B. Mathis. Oak Grove was incorporated into other ranch lands owned by Mathis. Most of the Mathis holdings were sold to the Gubler and Frei families around 1970. The land is now owned by the Federal Government. South of Oak Grove, a site called Mokiac, part of the Mathis ranch, was once the site of a sawmill.
