Swansea

Swansea is located 30 miles east of Parker. The town was established in 1909 and survived until 1924. Swansea was the headquarters for the Clara Consolidated Gold and Copper Mining Company. A railroad line to Swansea was completed in 1908 and Swansea had a peak population of 750. Swansea had many modern conveniences, including an electric light company, an automobile dealer, a dairy, a lumber and realty company, a barber, a doctor, a justice of the peace, and an insurance agent. Today, ruins of miners' housing line the former streets and several walls of the railroad station, ruins of the smelter, other buildings, and deep mine shafts serve as reminders of the past.
