Since the eighth century Christians have celebrated All Saints' Day on November 1 to celebrate the known and unknown Christian Saints. Saints are not just those whom the Church has canonized, but all members of that "cloud of witnesses" who proclaim Jesus as Lord - including you and me!

Almost as old as the celebration of All Saints' Day is the tradition associated with All Hallow's Eve. ("Hallows" mean "saints," both mean "holy ones." As in "Hallowed be thy name.") So, Halloween means "the evening before All Holy Ones' Day." Today we call that festival Halloween and we have many secular ways of recognizing it. However, it's important to remember that its celebration has a long, positive history in the Church.

What sort of history is that? Like many of our liturgical festivals (Christmas and Easter included), All Saints' Day & All Hallow's Eve have some connection to pagan festivals. People of many races and cultures have remembered their dead and have had superstitions about death itself. Christians remembered death itself on All Hallow's Eve. They celebrated Christ's victory over death. During the Middle Ages, Christians would gather in Churches for worship. They would remember the saints' victories over evil. Likewise they would put on little displays showing Jesus' victory of Satan, often using unusual masks or unique handmade costumes to act out the story.

Thus, the festivities on All Hallow's Eve was the Christian's way of laughing at evil. This is something we can do in certain hope of Christ's victory over the powers of darkness. The Church for centuries, however, has seen All Hallow's Eve not as a glorification of evil, but as a chance to affirm eternal life in the face of the death of our mortal bodies.

 Religious ceremony's for the remembrance of All Soul's & Saints Day are usually held on November 1st .

Our family tree stands tall, wide and free like the vision of a mighty oak tree

With all of our many brothers & sisters there's a branch for you and one for me

Our branches will intertwine for strength

whenever they are wildered by emotion, stress, sickness, or disease

A branch may become weak on it's own, and soon break

As it falls to the ground, it may lose some of it's leaves

By forming a blanket of warmth from fallen branches & leaves

This tree is kept safe from all the bitterness of the cold

Giving it the amazing sense of security it needs

As the family tree simply continues to grow old.

Many branches we will never have the chance to know,

Others we may never see again as the winds carry them away

But the unity of our love will keep our tree forever growing

Until on this wonderful earth, by God's choice we can no longer stay

As sometimes she must witness, another patient die

So Special NURSE, for all you've done for other's too

,So please watch over them every night & day

Remember to keep all the little animals off the road

Then keep those "road hogs" out of their way

Always keep your "Angels" close beside them

Whenever it is raining, or when there's snow & ice

And remember no matter how tired they get

Please give them the patience, to be nice!

Keep those drivers with "road rage" away from them,

Help them to stay warm, & see they are well fed

Sometimes they are so busy, they forget to eat,

And once in awhile, let them sleep in a real bed!

Let them know how much they are missed

As they spend their time away from home

Please keep their log books up-to-date, &

Their Dispatchers alert, cause they can't do it all alone!

For without them we would not have the food we do,

All those luxuries in life, clothing, & necessities too.

And then, whenever their delivery is finished & the run is done,

Bring them home again safely to their families, when they are through

Now, I thank you, My dear God for listening to me today,

Cause I know it's a lot to ask you to do

But each Truck Driver is special in their own Unique way

And there wouldn't be "Truck Drivers" on the road without YOU!

My Four Dachshunds

They never ask me questions.

They never tell me NO.

Whenever I am leaving,

With me, they always want to go.

They're loving and loyal,

And "too cute" to scold.

They're My Four Dachshunds,

Which I love to hold.

Silvie will cuddle with me anywhere,

Wherever I take her, she doesn't care.

Taffy will walk with me by my side,

The wag on her tail shows

she's filled with pride.

Francie, my tiny one, will speak on command,

She sits in her box, and gives me a hand.

Casey will fetch, and play with her bear,

Whenever I need her, she will be there.

These four little girls

will do almost anything,

Nothing compares with the love that they bring.

They know when I'm happy,

they know when I'm sad.

They understand frustrated, depressed,

anger, and mad.

Like four small children,

they snuggle close at night.

If you're an intruder,

they'll bark and they'll bite!

I love My Four Dachshunds, and they love me.

They're a special part of our family.

Soft as a fuzzy pillow with those curious little eyes

Sly as a little mouse, as she cleverly spies

One simple meow, or tiny purr lets you know she is there

The independent , loving friend you just can't take everywhere

She's always graceful as she falls landing right on her feet,

Standing at the doorway, with a big meow she will greet!

She's quick to react, whenever the door opens up wide

She was just waiting in anticipation to explore the outside

Climbing up the drapes or scratching at the screens

Sometimes you don't understand what their language means

Sitting up high in an old mighty oak tree, she's not afraid.

She'll come on down when she's ready to, while you soak up some shade

Patience she'll soon teach you, when she plays hide and seek

She may not come out for days, but she may just take a peek

If they get lost, while they are out on the roam

Months may pass by, but soon they'll come home

Easily housebroken using a litter box,

Easily amused with a pair of old socks

Comforting you gently when you are sad,

But she'll purr with all her might when you are glad!

A fish in a bowl may be a tempting delight

As she watches, while you sleep all through the night

She'll rub up next to you whenever she wants attention

Though she'll take off like a rocket , in almost any direction

She'll sit on your lap, while you are sitting at the computer or watching tv

But don't forget to pet her, by stroking her fur, oh so gently

She'll let you know whenever she's had enough,

She'll let out a hiss, if you're getting too rough

With an arched back, and claws stretched out wide

She'll plan her attack, if there's an intruder close by

She will often entertain you with her grace, or a delightful kitten game

But sometimes, when you try to please her, no interest does she claim

You desperately call her with that special "Here Kitty, Kitty "Call

And she'll respond whenever she's ready, or maybe not at all

Believed to bring us luck, entertainment, and everlasting joy

She does her own thing, cause she's a CAT, not a silly wind-up toy

She'll sit and watch you, her great master, her loving prize

This wonderful, heart-warming,  little pet in many colors, shapes, & size!
