"(Doc) was born on way to Texas... Benjamin his father had a bell they would reing for all to come to meals. He (Doc) blew the bugle when he learned to play it, instead of the bell.  He wanted to go to war with the others bu was hard of hearing so they let him look after the ones in the community, to feel he was in the war.  He had a Shoe Repair shop in the Old Stone Fort of Nacogdoches where the History of Nacogdoches was made, and has been moved now to the Stephen F. Austin College, Nacodoches and is just like it was.  I saw it in Mar 16, 1967 and looked just like when I was a child even to the dim light at the back.   When they were going to move it, I remember my brother asked me what I remember about it and I said it looked so dark but there was a dim light at the back of the room, as I recalled it and - there was even a dim light.  Such a feeling of seeing it- just cannot describe it- but the history that it tells - just go see it.   See Pauline Shirley Morrie Book on Nacogdoches Early Records- p. 122-3 (EARLY RECORDS OF NACOGDOCHES COUNTY TEXAS.)"
