AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND
NIKITA: Looks like it's all here.
BIRKOFF: Good. Destroy it.
NIKITA: Done.
BIRKOFF: Get out of there. They'll be on top of you any second.
NIKITA: Birkoff, I can't get out.
BIRKOFF: What do you mean?
NIKITA: The door's locked.
COMPUTER DISPLAY: Security breach detected. Alarm system activated.
BIRKOFF: They know you're there. Michael, Nikita's trapped. Go in.
MICHAEL: Nikita, this way.
NIKITA: Birkoff, someone just grabbed Michael.
BIRKOFF: Don't pursue, there are too many shooters. I'm sending in backup.
RED CELL OUTPOST
PEREZ: I see you are awake. We have some questions to ask you before you're disposed of. We're curious how you found out about us. Get him prepared.
PEREZ: How are you today, Sunshine?
SECTION: BRIEFING AREA
OPERATIONS: Last night, we engaged in an operation to destroy certain records belonging to this man.
OPERATIONS: Orlando Perez, a first-tier Red Cell tactician who's been responsible for the abductions of several high-level players, all of whom have access to sensitive intel. There have been no demands for their release. We believe he's using them as involuntary sources. Birkoff…
NIKITA: (interrupting) So, what about Michael?
BIRKOFF: The information we destroyed last night was vital to Perez's operation. In order to recover it, he'll have to subcontract one of three data recovery experts.
OPERATIONS: All of whom we now own.
NIKITA: I asked a question.
OPERATIONS: If Michael is still alive and we're able to recover him without incurring further losses, we will.
NIKITA: He should be a priority.
OPERATIONS: I beg your pardon?
NIKITA: If Perez is abducting agents to extract Intel, then Michael's going to become a liability. We need to extract him.
OPERATIONS: Or kill him. Let me break this down for everybody so we're clear. We have a mandate to stop Perez and we will. As far as Michael is concerned, he is a Class Five Operative and I have no intention of sacrificing him unnecessarily. Our profilers are working up a strategy as we speak. Your pads will be updated with your respective tacticals. This briefing is over.
OPERATIONS: In case you have forgotten, this is a military organization. There is a chain of command and protocol for speaking to superiors. I will accept a certain leeway from time-to-time, when emotions run high, but not always.
NIKITA: I'm sorry.
RED CELL OUTPOST
TECH: His blood level's at 88. Should I increase?
PEREZ: No. That should be enough. Let's begin. What is your name?
MICHAEL: Michael.
PEREZ: Michael, what?
MICHAEL: Samuelle.
PEREZ: Hello, Michael Samuelle. Where were you born?
MICHAEL: Marseilles.
PEREZ: In what year?
MICHAEL: 1965.
TECH: His EEG and impedance are stable. He's telling the truth.
PEREZ: For whom do you work? I asked you a question, Michael Samuelle. For whom do you work?
Michael remains silent.
PEREZ: What's the problem?
TECH: It's likely he's programmed to resist certain types of memory desensing.
PEREZ: Can we work around it?
TECH: Give it another two hours and he'll be an open book.
COMM
OPERATIONS: You got something?
BIRKOFF: One of our data recovery informants was contacted by a woman named Ying Kam.
OPERATIONS: She works for Perez?
BIRKOFF: She's being brought in now.
OPERATIONS: Has she offered up anything, yet?
BIRKOFF: No. She'll need some persuasion.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
BURKE: How ya doing?
OPERATIONS: Are you busy?
MADELINE: No. Russell was just telling me an amusing story about his last Delta pick-up.
OPERATIONS: I see.
MADELINE: What's up?
OPERATIONS: Mobile's bringing in one of Perez's people. A woman. She'll need your attention.
MADELINE: How soon?
OPERATIONS: Within the hour.
MADELINE: I'll be there.
SYSTEMS
Operations is accessing data on a computer. The monitor reads “ERROR: ACCESS DENIED”.
OPERATIONS: Damn it! Birkoff!
BIRKOFF: Sir?
OPERATIONS: Get over here. What the hell's wrong with this thing?
BIRKOFF: What are you trying to access?
OPERATIONS: A file on one of our Operatives.
BIRKOFF: Who?
OPERATIONS: Russell Burke. What do you know about him?
BIRKOFF: We use him for a lot of Valentine Ops.
OPERATIONS: Really?
BIRKOFF: Yeah. Women go crazy for this guy. He's brought in a lot of hard Intel over the last couple of years. You want me to pull an efficiency on him?
OPERATIONS: No. That's fine.
WHITE ROOM
MADELINE: Hello, Ms. Kam. Can I get you anything? Some water? I've looked at your file. You present differently than most of our detainees. Raised in an upper middle-class family, bright, very attractive, but restless. You got entangled in a relationship with Orlando Perez. A man who uses you for errands and sex. Trust me, you do not have the strength to withstand the pain our technology can inflict. The question is simple: will you cooperate now or will you force me to modify you?
OPERATIONS' PERCH
MADELINE: We just got location on Perez.
OPERATIONS: Good. Send a Team.
RED CELL OUTPOST
TECH: I've boosted the dosage. He should be ready.
PEREZ: Good.
TECH: But I can only keep him saturated for a couple of minutes. After that, there'll be too much damage to get anything useful.
PEREZ: Let's see if you're worth keeping alive.
COMM
BIRKOFF: Everyone to second mark. We're closing in.
RED CELL OUTPOST
PEREZ: Who do you work for, Michael?
MICHAEL: Section One.
PEREZ: What were you doing at my club?
BIRKOFF: Your marks are up. Go!
The Section One team attacks. Perez and his tech retreat, leaving Michael. Nikita finds him, bound and drugged.
NIKITA: Michael? Michael. Can you walk?
MICHAEL: I think so. What's this for?
NIKITA: The area's not secure, yet.
MICHAEL: Where are we?
NIKITA: Michael, it's me, Nikita. Come on. Michael? Let's go!
MICHAEL: Why…why do you keep calling me Michael?
NIKITA: Okay, Birkoff, it's me. I've got Michael. How do we get out of here?
BIRKOFF: Nothing's secure yet. Can you augment a Tactical?
NIKITA: No. Michael's been sedated. I'm going to have to keep him close.
BIRKOFF: Okay, let me see if I can create some space for you. Team Three, increase your wedge by a few degrees.
BIRKOFF: Okay, Nikita. There's a door ten meters to your right, down the hallway. It leads out. You'll be clear for the next sixty seconds.
NIKITA: Okay. We've got to go now.
MICHAEL: I don't know who you are.
NIKITA: You've been drugged. I don't have time to explain, but I'm here to help. These people are trying to kill you.
MICHAEL: Why?
NIKITA: Because you're their enemy. You're an anti-terrorist Operative.
MICHAEL: No, I'm not.
NIKITA: Who do you think you are?
MICHAEL: I can't remember.
BIRKOFF: Nikita, I can't keep this corridor clear. You've got to get out of there.
NIKITA: You want to live, you better come with me. Come on.
OPERATIVE: Are you ready?
NIKITA: Yeah, let's go.
NIKITA: Michael! Michael, get over here!
NIKITA: Stay with me! Ready?
COMM
OPERATIONS: How did we do?
BIRKOFF: We lost four Ops.
OPERATIONS: And Perez?
BIRKOFF: He slipped through.
OPERATIONS: How?
BIRKOFF: We're still not sure.
OPERATIONS: In other words, a complete failure.
BIRKOFF: We haven't finished combing the scene, yet. But, we did pick up Michael.
OPERATIONS: When you get something substantial, call me.
VAN ACCESS
OPERATIONS: Michael?
MICHAEL: Yes?
OPERATIONS: We're glad you're back.
MICHAEL: Thank you.
OPERATIONS: Were you able to extract an RP on Perez?
MICHAEL: An RP?
NIKITA: His Retreat Point's still not known. I think we should take Michael to Medical before he debriefs. There was quite a bit of interrogation equipment at the site.
OPERATIONS: Are you all right?
MICHAEL: Yes. Just need a little bit of rest.
NIKITA: I'll take him.
OPERATIONS: Fine.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
MADELINE: Hello.
OPERATIONS: I have to pick a decoy for Uzbekistan. The chances of returning alive are less than ten percent.
MADELINE: I'm aware of that. So?
OPERATIONS: I'm thinking of sending Russell. Unless you think he'd be more valuable where his is now.
MADELINE: I don't think so. Russell's a good choice.
OPERATIONS: Good. Then it’s settled.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
NIKITA: Hi.
MICHAEL: How long did I sleep?
NIKITA: Not long. A couple of hours.
MICHAEL: I had strange dreams....
NIKITA: Did you remember anything, yet?
MICHAEL: No. Maybe we should contact my family. They must be worried.
NIKITA: You don't have a family. Not in the ordinary sense of the word. The organization we work for is so covert that none of us have any real identities. We're all dead as far as the outside world is concerned.
MICHAEL: Do I have friends?
NIKITA: I don't know. I don't really know that much about you.
MICHAEL: How long have you known me?
NIKITA: Over three years. You trained me.
MICHAEL: Why don't you know me better?
NIKITA: It's hard to explain.
MICHAEL: I must be a real jerk.
NIKITA: Actually, ah…I'm very fond of you.
MICHAEL: I'm happy to hear to hear that. Yesterday, when I killed this man. I've done that before, haven't I? What will happen if my m-memory doesn't return?
NIKITA: They'll kill you.
MICHAEL: Wh - Why don't they just let me go?
NIKITA: Because they don't let anybody go!
MICHAEL: I can't accept that.
NIKITA: But you have to.
MICHAEL: I may not know who I was, but I know who I am. I can feel it. I'll never be treated like a -- like a caged animal.
OFFICE
PEREZ: Minor setback, that's all. Everything's still on for tomorrow night. Right here at the club. No, it'll be fine. The weapons are secure. I'll see you in Tangiers by the weekend.
PEREZ: Idiot! Be careful.
COMM
OPERATIONS: Yes, Birkoff?
BIRKOFF: I just received something about Perez from Section Seven.
OPERATIONS: What?
BIRKOFF: Someone's brokering a short range tactical system on the black market. Indicators suggest Perez might be the buyer.
OPERATIONS: Call Michael in. Initiate a profile.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
MICHAEL: Why do you need my blood?
NIKITA: Well, if there are any drugs left in your system, maybe they'll be able to tell us something.
MICHAEL: You're a good friend, Nikita. Did I say something wrong?
NIKITA: No. It’s…it's just hard to get used to.
MICHAEL: What?
NIKITA: You.
MICHAEL: Didn't I ever tell you things like that?
NIKITA: No.
MICHAEL: I don't believe it. Did we ever dance?
NIKITA: Only under orders. (Michael indicates that they should dance.) Oh, Michael, I don't think so.
MICHAEL: Please. Just a little bit.
NIKITA: Okay.
MICHAEL: Thank you.
As they dance, Michael kisses her on the cheek.
NIKITA: Please don't.
MICHAEL: Why not?
NIKITA: Because this isn't who you are.
A phone rings.
NIKITA: It's yours.
MICHAEL: What do I say?
NIKITA: Just agree.
MICHAEL: Yeah. Uh-huh. They want me to come in.
NIKITA: Well, we've got work to do.
OPERATIONS' PERCH
MICHAEL: You wanted to see me?
OPERATIONS: We're converging on Perez. But we have a couple of options. I'd like your input.
MICHAEL: Of course.
MUNITIONS
WALTER: I'll be right with you, Sugar. Okay, what's up?
NIKITA: I need you to run something for me.
WALTER: Yeah, what for?
NIKITA: Not sure. Maybe a psychotropic agent of some sort. Something that could interfere with memory.
WALTER: Who's blood is it?
NIKITA: Does it matter?
WALTER: Well, I've gotta know whose baseline to pull, so I can get a delta.
NIKITA: It’s M-Michael's.
Walter nods.
SYSTEMS
BIRKOFF: We don't have confirmation, but there's a good chance Perez is hiding out in a private club in Lukenwalde, Germany.
OPERATIONS: How good?
BIRKOFF: Point seven-five. The problem is, if he isn't there and we go in, we lose our advantage.
MICHAEL: What's our advantage?
OPERATIONS: The deal. They'll know we're onto the deal.
BIRKOFF: On the other hand, if we don't pick up Perez soon, we'll have to rely on our field ops, who are already on the seams of their covers.
OPERATIONS: Those systems will be untrackable if we don't find Perez in the next eighteen hours. We've got to make a choice. Michael?
MICHAEL: What do you think we should do?
BIRKOFF: What do you mean?
OPERATIONS: Michael. Are you all right?
MICHAEL: I'm fine. I'm just saying its not a subjective call. We should let the computer do an analysis.
BIRKOFF: An analysis? You mean a sim?
MICHAEL: Yeah. A sim.
BIRKOFF: I did.
OPERATIONS: And?
BIRKOFF: According to the numbers, there's a three percent advantage to going in.
MICHAEL: Three percent. Then, we go in.
OPERATIONS: Okay. Put together your team.
MICHAEL’S OFFICE
NIKITA: Michael.
MICHAEL: What are you doing?
NIKITA: Securing the room. Okay, now we can talk. What did Operations say?
MICHAEL: I can't do this, Nikita. They're going to find out. Ah, I don't know what I'm doing.
NIKITA: Just do what I tell you.
MICHAEL: But for how much longer?
NIKITA: Walter's gonna know something when he analyzes the blood.
MICHAEL: And, if it's not the blood? I - I can't go through with this.
NIKITA: Yes, you can.
MICHAEL: No, I can't. I've got to get out of here.
NIKITA: You'll never make it. They'll find you.
MICHAEL: How do you know?
NIKITA: Take a look around.
MICHAEL: Well, you told me they were going to kill me anyway. I've got nothing to lose.
NIKITA: I do.
VOICE: (via comm) The Mission's loading, Michael. Michael?
MICHAEL: Okay.
NIKITA: Let's just get through this. We'll figure something out.
MEN’S CLUB
NIKITA: Use this to communicate with me. Stay on Channel C. I'll be the only one on it. Just make sure you remember to turn off your main unit when you're talking to me. Trust your instincts.
MICHAEL: Yeah.
NIKITA: Michael.
She give him glasses.
MICHAEL: Right.
HOST: Mr. Bonniere, welcome to the club. Mr. Marquez speaks highly of you. If there's anything you want at all, please ask.
MICHAEL: Thank you.
HOST: Would you like anything before you dine? Ah, a massage? A game of bridge, perhaps.
MICHAEL: Oh, ah…
BIRKOFF: What are you waiting for, Michael?
NIKITA: Michael, start in the library.
MICHAEL: The Library?
HOST: Sir?
MICHAEL: I would like to ah ...
OPERATIONS: What's he doing?
MICHAEL: ...rest a while...with an afternoon paper.
HOST: Right this way, Mr. Bonniere.
MICHAEL: Certainly.
BIRKOFF: Michael, why aren't you isolated?
MICHAEL: What?
NIKITA: Get rid of the host. You're gonna have to go alone.
MICHAEL: Why didn't you tell me that earlier?
BIRKOFF: Tell you what earlier?
NIKITA: Michael, cut your main transmitter. The stem of your glasses. Now.
MICHAEL: Oh, yeah.
HOST: I'm sorry, sir?
NIKITA: Tell him you'd like some privacy. Just ask where the library is.
MICHAEL: I - I'm sorry. It's…it's been a busy day. Just -- just tell me where it is.
HOST: It's just up the stairs, to the left.
BIRKOFF: Okay, at the end of the hall turn right.
NIKITA: Michael, turn your main unit back on.
BIRKOFF: Michael?
MICHAEL: What? I'm here.
BIRKOFF: What are you doing? I said turn right.
MICHAEL: But, he s -- he said the library was on the left.
BIRKOFF: You're not going to the library. Perez would be one of the back rooms to the right.
BIRKOFF: Everyone to Second Mark. We're closing in.
MICHAEL: It’s locked. What should I do?
BIRKOFF: Open it.
NIKITA: Michael, your U-key. It's in your jacket.
PEREZ GUARD: How did you get in?
MICHAEL: It was open.
PEREZ GUARD: This room is occupied.
BIRKOFF: Those are his men, Michael. Proceed.
MICHAEL: I'm looking for the Library.
PEREZ GUARD: I don't know where the Library is. Ask someone out there.
OPERATIONS: What's he waiting for? Shoot the damn guards, Michael!
PEREZ: What's going on? That's him! Shoot him!
BIRKOFF: Abort Surgical. Everyone in.
NIKITA: Take him
NIKITA: Michael! Michael, it’s me. Stay with me.
SYSTEMS
PEREZ GUARD: (tape playback) How did you get in?
MICHAEL: (tape playback) It was open.
OPERATIONS: It's almost as if he didn't know what to do.
MADELINE: Or forgot. After Perez gave us the coordinates on the delivery system deal, I pressed him about Michael.
OPERATIONS: Why?
MADELINE: Walter found traces of some curious substances at the site of Michael's detainment.
OPERATIONS: What sort?
MADELINE: Limbic suppressors.
OPERATIONS: Memory?
MADELINE: It's possible. It would explain the recent behavior pattern that you've been noticing.
OPERATIONS: If Michael's mind was tampered with, how could that have escaped us?
MADELINE: He had some help.
MUNITIONS
WALTER: How's he doing?
NIKITA: He'll be okay. What did you find out?
WALTER: Get this into his I.V. bag soon as possible.
NIKITA: Does it work?
WALTER: I don't know but we're running out of time. Madeline knows something's going on.
NIKITA: How long does it take?
WALTER: At least eight hours. It has to saturate.
NIKITA: Thanks, Walter.
WALTER: Let me know.
MEDICAL
NIKITA: Could you give us a minute?
MICHAEL: How did we do?
NIKITA: We did great. How are you feeling?
MICHAEL: Okay, I guess.
NIKITA: Good.
MICHAEL: And they still don't know?
NIKITA: No. But they will if we don't, ah, do something soon.
MICHAEL: Is it going to work?
NIKITA: I don't know.
MICHAEL: Have I ever told you I love you?
NIKITA: Actually, no.
MICHAEL: I do.
HALLWAY OUTSIDE SYSTEMS
OPERATIONS: Did you follow up on Michael?
MADELINE: Not yet. He's still too groggy.
OPERATIONS: What's the plan?
MADELINE: When he's strong enough, we'll test him thoroughly.
OPERATIONS: Let them remain convinced that they fooled us.
BURKE: Hi.
MADELINE: I thought you sent him to Uzbekistan?
OPERATIONS: I changed my mine.
MADELINE: Why?
OPERATIONS: I took another look at his panel. He's still single sourced in some areas.
MADELINE: Good for him.
OPERATIONS: I'm having Christopher prepare coq au vin a little later. Would you like to join me?
MADELINE: Not tonight, thank you.
MEDICAL
MICHAEL: Mm.
NIKITA: How are you feeling?
MICHAEL: Like I've been shot?
NIKITA: Yeah. You were shot on a Mission, yesterday in Lukenwalde, Germany.
MICHAEL: Germany? No, we were in Amsterdam. In a dance club. You were trapped in a room. I broke position, then... Where's Operations? I need to debrief.
NIKITA: Something happened, Michael. Um...You were grabbed in Amsterdam and taken to Perez. He did something to your memory. You've haven't been able to remember who you were for the last three days.
MICHAEL: Do they know?
NIKITA: No, I protected you.
MICHAEL: Thank you.
