OPERATIONS' OFFICE
OPERATIONS: Hello, Nikita. Your six-month numbers just came in.
NIKITA: My what?
OPERATIONS: Evaluations. They tell us how effective you've been on live missions. I've been following your progress since you returned to full status.
NIKITA: How am I doing?
OPERATIONS: How do you think you're doing?
NIKITA: I get the job done more quickly than most. But I do have a more unorthodox approach -- something which is frowned upon by Section.
OPERATIONS: Not by the Section; by me. If you were me, what would you recommend I do about that?
NIKITA: I'd give me some time off, say, the next forty years.
OPERATIONS: That might not be possible. Officially, I will not take action against you.
NIKITA: Unofficially?
OPERATIONS: I'm going to ask Michael to keep a tighter rein on you, watch for weaknesses, see if we can help you eliminate them.
NIKITA: Eliminate them?
OPERATIONS: That will be all.
VAN ACCESS
NIKITA: It could have been a lot worse.
TERRY: Yeah, I hate being the first team on a hot op.
CAPTIVE: You can't keep me here, I've got people.
MICHAEL: Take him to Containment.
TERRY: So, what do you do on your down time?
NIKITA: Nothing special. Live.
TERRY: Wanna get a bite to eat?
NIKITA: Yeah, maybe some time.
The captive breaks free; Nikita eventually subdues him.
NIKITA: I'm glad you came. It's not very often I get to hang out with another operative.
TERRY: What about Michael? Don't you guys hang out?
NIKITA: Not really.
TERRY: But there's a closeness, yeah?
NIKITA: Yeah. There's a...a closeness.
TERRY: I've been there.
NIKITA: Who with?
TERRY: Just another op. It was before you got here.
NIKITA: So, what happened?
TERRY: He was grabbed during a raid. They were willing to trade him for one of theirs that we picked up, but Operations said no, so they killed him. God, it’s only been four years. It seems like a lifetime.
NIKITA: So, you got a boyfriend now?
TERRY: I wouldn't exactly call him a boyfriend, but he's okay.
NIKITA: Is that inside or out?
TERRY: Always best to make friends outside the Section.
NIKITA: Not always.
SECTION: BRIEFING TABLE
OPERATIONS: We've got two hostages on the third floor above a nightclub. Birkoff has a full a and e on the building and surrounding area. We're on a nine-hour clock, door-to-door.
BIRKOFF: I've downloaded the a and e's onto your panels.
MICHAEL: What's the relative value of hostage versus target?
OPERATIONS: They're both priorities. We're dealing with a rogue NSA agent. Sullivan Bates. A former field op who worked his way up to regional strategist, Middle and Near East. He has nine years of sensitive intel. He wants to sell it.
MICHAEL: What happened?
OPERATIONS: The Agency found out about it and was converging when things got out of hand. Now they want us to clean it up. Get on it.
CORRIDOR
NIKITA: Hi, Walter.
WALTER: Huh? Hi, Sugar.
NIKITA: What ya got?
WALTER: Nothing.
NIKITA: Walter ...
WALTER: Hm?
NIKITA: What's wrong?
WALTER: What do you mean?
NIKITA: Well, I haven't seen you in over a week and I usually get a little more from you.
WALTER: What do you want, a floorshow every time we meet?
SYSTEMS
TERRY: I've never asked you for anything, Michael. Whey can't you do this for me?
MICHAEL: Birkoff and I will coordinate from here. You'll be entering the building on the Northeast side. Work your way through the club. On the Southeast corner you'll find a stairwell. Go there and stand by.
NIGHT CLUB: MISSION
BATES: I don't understand you. All you have to do is talk to me. I'll cut you down. You can walk out of here.
NIKITA: We're in position, Birkoff. Do you have us?
BIRKOFF: Yeah. Be careful crossing the room. Bates has security on the floor.
BATES: All right, this is the last time I'm gonna ask. Look at me. Look at me! The thing is, I know someone from your department has been tracking me. Do you have anything to tell me? Anything?
BIRKOFF: There's one headed right for you, Terry.
Terry knocks out the hostile.
BIRKOFF: There's another one right behind him.
Terry subdues him as well.
BIRKOFF: The stairs are clean. It's the first room at the top.
BATES: Kill them. Get it on tape.
Bates' men cock and aim their guns. Outside the room, Nikita attaches a device that transmits thermal images.
NIKITA: Got it, Birkoff?
BIRKOFF: Yeah.
MICHAEL: There's a gun on each hostage. We'll need two on the interior -- Terry and Snow.
TERRY: What's their position?
MICHAEL: Through the door on the left.
TERRY: Will I have time?
MICHAEL: They're about to shoot a hostage. Get off this channel and go.
NIKITA: Let's go.
Terry hesitates.
NIKITA: What's the matter, Terry? What's wrong?
TERRY: I can't do it, I can't go in there.
MICHAEL: Nikita, get to your point, so they can go in. MICHAEL: Nikita, now!
NIKITA: Michael, I'm going to take Terry's place.
MICHAEL: Why?
NIKITA: She twisted her ankle on the stairwell. She's not mobile enough.
MICHAEL: All right, Nikita, go. Tyler, cover the egress. Terry, back to transport.
Nikita injures Terry’s ankle. Before she can enter the room, two gunshots ring out. Nikita kicks open the door and kills a hostile. From the other door, Snow kills another hostile. Bates escapes through the window.
NIKITA: Michael, he went through the window. He's back in the club.
MICHAEL: Team two; tighten the perimeter. What about the hostages?
NIKITA: Both dead.
SYSTEMS
MICHAEL: Status of target.
BIRKOFF: Out of range.
VAN ACCESS
MICHAEL: Are you all right?
TERRY: Yes. It was a stupid thing. I'm sorry, Michael.
MICHAEL: Snow, take her down to Medical.
Terry and Snow leave.
MICHAEL: Nikita? After you check in I want to see you in my office.
OPERATIONS' OFFICE
OPERATIONS: What happened?
MICHAEL: We had a drop out after the clock started.
OPERATIONS: Who?
MICHAEL: Terry. She sprained her ankle coming upstairs.
OPERATIONS: We were only one layer thin?
MICHAEL: Yes.
OPERATIONS: And Bates?
MICHAEL: We didn't get him.
OPERATIONS: Maybe I should just call NSA back and tell them we're as incompetent as they are. Find Bates!
MICHAEL'S OFFICE
MICHAEL: Sit down. Terry sprained her ankle.
NIKITA: Yes, that's right.
MICHAEL: Why didn't she report?
NIKITA: I don't know. Maybe she thought she could shake it off.
MICHAEL: Did you see it?
NIKITA: Not at first. Why am I on trial here? Why don't you just ask her?
MICHAEL: I will. Right now I'm asking you. You and Terry have recently become friends…is that right?
NIKITA: What's that suppose to mean?
MICHAEL: Terry's a veteran operative; one of our best. To date, she's never had an anomaly.
NIKITA: Good for her. Are we done?
MICHAEL: Yes.
NIKITA: Okay. See ya.
MEDICAL
NIKITA: Hey.
TERRY: Hey.
NIKITA: How's it feel?
TERRY: Oh, it’s fine. Just a little swollen.
.
NIKITA: You did not want to go out on that mission today.
TERRY: I don't want to go out on any of them.
NIKITA: What's going on, Terry?
TERRY: I owe you a thanks -- not an explanation.
NIKITA: Terry...
TERRY: I-I'm pregnant.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
NIKITA: So, who's the father?
TERRY: Um, just some guy I see once in a while. It's nothing serious.
NIKITA: Well, does he know?
TERRY: What would be the point? It's not as if we could get married and raise a family.
NIKITA: So, what happens now? What are you going to do?
TERRY: I don't know.
NIKITA: This can't be the first time anyone's gotten pregnant in the Section.
TERRY: No. No, it's not. You know Carolyn, the redhead, works in Comm?
Nikita nods.
TERRY: Well, about five years ago, she had a baby. Came back to work and never talked about it. Acted as if it never happened.
NIKITA: What about the baby?
TERRY: Nobody knows.
NIKITA: Maybe they just found it a good home.
TERRY: Maybe. Maybe something else. All I know is there's no day care center down there.
NIKITA: This is not a secret you're going to be able to keep for very long.
SYSTEMS
OPERATIONS: Bates lost his hostages, but our source informed us he still has other deals in place with his buyers.
MICHAEL: What's Bates selling?
OPERATIONS: Identities and locations of undercover NSA agents. They're involved in something called the Plimpton Project. They'll mark down his price: the cost of having to take the agents down themselves. Birkoff?
BIRKOFF: When Bates turned, he formed a partnership with a handful of independent brokers. They make his deals. One of the brokers is ours. Mick Schtoppel. Was brought in last year when we took down Ilya Benko. We forged a relationship with him and sent him back out. He gets us to Bates.
MICHAEL: Good.
MUNITIONS
Walter shows a cigarette to Michael.
WALTER: Smoke this down to here. You'll be able to smell it. When the fuse is lit, you've got thirty seconds to get rid of it.
MICHAEL: And the charge?
WALTER: Contained, but significant.
MICHAEL: Enough to set off an alarm?
WALTER: Yeah. It'll work! Like I told you, okay?
COMMON AREA
MICHAEL: Have you reviewed the profile?
NIKITA: I haven't completed the final. I was just on my way up to Systems to do that now.
MICHAEL: What about Terry?
NIKITA: She's getting dressed.
MICHAEL: And her ankle?
NIKITA: It's going to be fine. Is that all?
MICHAEL: Can I see you over there?
NIKITA: What's wrong?
MICHAEL: I know Terry. She didn't just sprain her ankle. What is she hiding?
NIKITA: Nothing that I know of. What she talk to you about?
MICHAEL: When?
NIKITA: In Systems, before last night's Mission. She seemed pretty upset.
MICHAEL: She was, but she didn't want to tell me why. I thought you might know.
NIKITA: No.
MICHAEL: If something's going on with her that could compromise her performance then you need to tell me.
NIKITA: What do you want me to tell you, Michael? I don't know what's going on. If you doubt Terry, then just pull her off the mission.
MICHAEL: If I pull her off, she'll undergo a complete reevaluation. I'm asking you to tell me, do I need to do that?
NIKITA: I don't think that's necessary, no.
CITY STREET: LIMO
MICK: You are joking with this outfit, right?
TERRY: What's wrong with it?
MICK: Well, we're not going to a Section One disco party. These people are sophisticated, and it's going to reflect badly on me.
TERRY: Is that sophisticated as in terrorist, drug addict or murderer?
MICK: Is that a little bit of spandex?
NIKITA: Knock if off, Schtoppel.
MICK: What'd I say? What'd I say?
MICHAEL: Let's go through it one more time.
MICK: Right you are team leader.
MICHAEL: Once we settle in, I'll give you a signal.
MICK: Uh-huh.
MICHAEL: Once the decoy is set, you'll make your move to the computer.
MICK: It's a brand new designer drug. It is so new it doesn't even have a name yet.
Mick ingests some and offers the vial to Terry.
MICK: Do you want some? Look! The people you're going to meet tonight will be there to party. If you're not, they're going to wonder what the bloody hell you're doing there in the first place.
NIKITA: Don't worry, Schtoppel. We'll be real party animals.
MICK: All right! Yeah, baby! Yeah! (to Terry) Have some.
Terry refuses.
PARTY: MISSION
BIRKOFF: Michael, start the sequence.
MICK: Funny how what you were saying earlier, was that my friend, Mikey here, may soon come in contact with some very interesting weapons systems.
TERRY: Excuse me; I'll be right back.
Mick kisses Terry.
MICK: I'm gonna miss you, baby.
Terry pushes him away and leaves.
MICK: She's juicy one, that one.
NIKITA: Can you just wait one minute for me? I mean, don't move. I'll be right back.
Nikita follows Terry out of the room.
TERRY: Is there a bathroom back here?
MAN: Second door.
Terry enters the bathroom and then Nikita follows.
MAN: Whoa, whoa, whoa!
NIKITA: Oh, excuse me. I mean, do you know where I can powder my nose?
MAN: Wait a minute -- someone's in there.
NIKITA: Oh. Can I just, uh, wait here with you?
MAN: Sure.
NIKITA: Some party.
MAN: Um-hmm.
Terry sneaks out of the bathroom and into the office upstairs.
TERRY: I'm in, Birkoff.
BIRKOFF: Pull all the files with the JV extension.
MICK: Yeah, anyway, as I was saying. You know, the bloke said to me the same thing. I said, "You say that one more time and I'll kick your head in." I said, I said, what choice did I have? He was looking at me straight in the face. I said "I will kick your head in".
NIKITA: I-I did a lot of print, when I was in ah, Spain, but ah, commercials -- that's what I really want to do. Have you been to Barcelona?
A fire in the pool area catches the man’s attention.
BIRKOFF: All right. We have about twenty seconds. Roll it up.
NIKITA: You get it?
TERRY: It's all there.
NIKITA: Let's go.
TERRY: I'm not going back.
NIKITA: What are you saying?
TERRY: Look, I know they'll catch up with me eventually. But I can stay hidden long enough to have this baby and make sure it's safe. After that, I don't care.
NIKITA: Terry!
Terry retreats into the bathroom. Michael approaches.
MICHAEL: Do you have it?
NIKITA: Yup.
MICHAEL: Where's Terry?
NIKITA: She's in the bathroom.
MICHAEL: What's she doing in there?
NIKITA: She had to go.
MICHAEL: What's going on?
Michael knocks on the bathroom door.
MICHAEL: Terry?
Michael forces the door open. The bathroom is empty.
MICHAEL: Let's go.
CITY STREET
NIKITA: Michael, please don't call it in. You know what they'll do to her. She ran because she's scared.
MICHAEL: Of what?
NIKITA: She's having a baby.
MICK: Huh! Do not look at me, all right? I just met the bird.
NIKITA: Shut up, Mick! Michael, please. She made a mistake. Let's just bring her back in. She's a good operative. We can talk to her. Please.
MICHAEL: Birkoff, give me a two kilometer infrared centered on the house. Schtoppel made a run for it.
MICK: Good one.
MICHAEL: Turn left here.
NIKITA: There she is.
MICHAEL: Stop.
The limo stops and Michael gets out. Terry sees him and runs away; Michael follows and stops her.
TERRY: No! Let me go! Mic-Michael! Let me go! Michael, let me go! Michael, please!
Michael releases her.
MICHAEL: Where you gonna go?
TERRY: You don't understand.
MICHAEL: Nikita told me.
They both climb into the limo.
NIKITA: Terry, I'm sorry. I had to tell him -- I had no choice.
TERRY: Does Operations know?
MICHAEL: No.
MICK: Uh, no. You-you've got to inform Section, Michael.
MICHAEL: Shut up, Mick.
MICK: No! The security implications alone are staggering. Oy!
Michael throws Mick from the moving car.
TERRY: Do you want me to debrief?
MICHAEL: No. (to Nikita) Get the disk to Birkoff.
NIKITA: Sure.
MICHAEL: You know what you have to do. It's your move.
CORRIDOR
MICHAEL: Nikita.
Nikita stops.
MICHAEL: So, you lied to me from the beginning.
NIKITA: Don't make this about loyalty to the Section, Michael, because it's not about that.
MICHAEL: You withheld information from me.
NIKITA: Yes, I did. And until someone can convince me that that baby's going to be safe, I'll tell as many lies as I have to protect it.
MICHAEL: It's not doing anybody any good for you to do Terry's bidding. Especially not now.
NIKITA: Michael, please. You think I'm going to be on my best behavior so you can give Operations a glowing report? You're a little off on how much I value my own life. Especially if I have to live it here.
MUNITIONS
NIKITA: Hey, Walter. Do you know where Birkoff is?
WALTER: Huh? How the hell should I know?
NIKITA: What the matter? Have I done…have I done something to upset you?
WALTER: Could somebody please send down some three strand? I've only asked for it twice! Um, Birkoff is probably in Systems.
SYSTEMS
NIKITA: Here you go.
BIRKOFF: Thank you.
NIKITA: Do you know what's wrong with Walter?
BIRKOFF: His three years’ is coming up tomorrow.
NIKITA: What's that?
BIRKOFF: It's a review.
NIKITA: I've never heard about it before.
BIRKOFF: You're still in the field. It's for the older ops.
NIKITA: So, what happens if he doesn't pass?
BIRKOFF: Then, he’s done.
NIKITA: What do you mean? He's cancelled?
BIRKOFF: No. They'd retire him.
NIKITA: What's wrong with that?
BIRKOFF: It's not exactly 'the condo in Palm Springs' kind of retirement. Whoa!
NIKITA: What kind is it?
BIRKOFF: They don't tell us. I've just heard rumors ...something on Level Eight. That's all I know.
MICHAEL'S OFFICE
NIKITA: I'm heading out. Is there anything else you need?
MICHAEL: No.
NIKITA: So, did you tell Operations about Terry?
MICHAEL: No.
NIKITA: So, what happens now?
MICHAEL: She'll have to tell him herself.
NIKITA: And if she doesn't? What happens then?
Michael doesn't answer.
NIKITA: I mean, what did you do when Simone got pregnant?
MICHAEL: She never was.
NIKITA: I thought that...
MICHAEL: You were mistaken.
SYSTEMS
OPERATIONS: What we know so far is this: Bates promised to deliver intelligence to his organization in the form of two NSA agents. Unfortunately, we were unable to intercept that play.
BIRKOFF: What we didn't know until now is what specifically Red Cell wanted from the NSA agents. The data we retrieved from the party gave us the answer. Both agents were privy to government codes.
OPERATIONS: Our friend, Mr. Schtoppel, was able to contact Bates. He's meeting Bates tomorrow at fifteen hundred hours, offering up the codes in exchange for five million dollars. We'll take Bates then.
MICHAEL: Where are they meeting?
OPERATIONS: We won't know for a couple of hours. A mission profile is being finalized. Put together your team and bring Bates down. Alive, if possible.
MICHAEL: Of course.
CITY STREET
Nikita secretly observes Michael and Terry talking outside Terry’s apartment.
VAN ACCESS
NIKITA: Terry.
TERRY: Hey.
NIKITA: What you doing here?
TERRY: I work here.
NIKITA: Didn't Michael load the Mission?
TERRY: Yeah. He asked me if I wanted to sit out. I said no. I'm getting an abortion.
NIKITA: I thought you said you didn't want to do that.
TERRY: Well -- Things change.
SECTION
WOMAN: What's the most important day of the week?
WALTER: Important for what?
WOMAN: Just answer the question, please.
WALTER: Tuesday or Thursday.
WOMAN: Choose one.
WALTER: Tuesday!
WOMAN: Which would you prefer to kill: a cat or a monkey?
WALTER: I don't know, I guess a...I'd probably say...
BIRKOFF: Sir.
OPERATIONS: What is it?
WOMAN: Do you agree or disagree?
BIRKOFF: ?
OPERATIONS: And Bates?
BIRKOFF: They think Schtoppel's delivering a rogue NSA agent with intel.
OPERATIONS: Who's going in?
BIRKOFF: Terry, with Michael posed as Security.
OPERATIONS: Keep me posted.
WALTER: I don't know… I guess...an eyeball!
LE GRAND HOTEL: MISSION
BIRKOFF: Michael, you're clean for entry.
MICK: Hello, Loves. Come in.
Guards search them for weapons.
MICK: Finished, boys? Come on. Mr. Bates is waiting.
BIRKOFF: Okay, all teams, they're in. Start the sequence.
BATES: Good afternoon.
BIRKOFF: There's six out, two in, four primaries.
MICK: I'd like you to meet a remarkable young lady, Mr. Bates. Not only does she have a level four clearance at the Agency, but she's worked directly on the Plimpton Project.
BATES: What about the security codes?
MICK: That the best thing.
TERRY: I don't need the codes, I wrote the program. You can log in as admin and get whatever you need.
MICK: I mean, isn't that fantastic?
Michael strikes one guard, uses him as a shield, takes a gun and kills another hostile. He points the gun at Bates, but then Terry takes a gun and points it at Michael.
TERRY: That'll be enough, Michael. If I have to kill you to save my baby, I'll do it. You know I will.
BIRKOFF: What is she doing? Team two; go to north egress.
MICK: I'm sorry, Michael. A little change in the agenda.
TERRY: I didn't have a choice. The Section doesn't care about life. What was going to happen to my baby?
MICHAEL: What do you think he's going to do?
TERRY: After the baby's safe, I'll tell him whatever he wants to know. I'm sure he'll kill me.
BATES: This is all very touching, but...it's time to go.
TERRY: No!
BATES: No?
TERRY: The deal was no one dies.
MICK: Well, I know, but...
TERRY: Then the deal is off.
Bates shoots Michel in the leg.
BATES: Are we all happy now?
MICK: Yeah, sure.
BATES: Let's go.
NIKITA: You going to kill me, Terry?
TERRY: If I have to.
NIKITA: Put down the gun, Bates. Maybe you can make a deal.
BATES: I know all about the deals Section One makes.
MICK: Don't be such a cynic, Bates. I mean, I was gonna tell you about...
NIKITA: Shut Up!
MICK: Fine!
NIKITA: I don't need you alive, Bates.
Terry kills Bates.
MICK: Yeah.
TERRY: Nikita. It wasn't supposed to be this way. I was just trying to protect my baby.
COMMON AREA
WALTER: Hey, Sugar. How you doing? Is this a gorgeous night or what?
NIKITA: Hi, Walter.
WALTER: You want to come in and see my new night-scope?
NIKITA: Maybe some other time.
WALTER: I'll be here.
NIKITA: Oh, I gather the review went well.
WALTER: They can't touch me!
MEDICAL
NIKITA: How's the leg?
MICHAEL: It's all right.
NIKITA: So, what's going to happen to Terry?
MICHAEL: They'll have to wait until the baby's born.
NIKITA: And the baby?
MICHAEL: No one knows.
NIKITA: You know, I went to see Terry this morning and I saw you leaving.
MICHAEL: And you think I'm the father?
NIKITA: Are you?
MICHAEL: No.
COMMON AREA
Nikita passes Terry as she is escorted away by two operatives.
