Flying in a WWII SBD Dauntless!
That's right SBD - Silent But Deadly,

A.K.A. Slow But Deadly

(actually it stands for Scout Bomber Douglas)

I was lucky enough to get a backseat ride from Chino to San Diego.
This veteran of WWII came down for a Battle of Midway commemorative flight.

Preflight

Authentic paint job, about 20 years old. "Cheese grater" flaps. The back seat spins around, the aft part of the canopy slides all the way forward and a machine gun comes out of the fuselage. I got to play with that too!

Taxiing out of Chino

I closed the canopy for take-off. This thing was even louder than my Harley!

Wrapping up the turn into Runway 36 at North Island. I didn't take many pictures in flight since Ron let me fly most of it.

View from the back seat...Ron let me ride the controls for the landing.

Ron's been flying for over 50 years!

The MS 150 is coming soon!
