National President Scholarships

The Americanism Youth Conference is a unique program for high school students (grades 10-12) offering a rare opportunity for participation in a 4-day residential program at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Penn.

Focused on the discussion of current issues facing the United States sessions and seminars approach these issues from a historical and global perspective on constitutional law ad government.

The program allows students to explore within themselves interpersonal skills and leadership potential.

Participation is by invitation only and based on application and essay.

The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, founded in 1949, celebrates the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights and their relevance to our daily lives. Their goal is to educate and inspire students and their teachers with the words, meanings and emotions that these founding documents convey, utilizing interactive programs that explore our history and debates that focus on Constitutional concepts in this changing world.

Award: $1,000 Scholarship and a trip to the ALA National Convention.

Application Requirements:

Must have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award and have at least a junior standing in High School.

Must be actively involved in a religious institution and must have received the appropriate religious emblem at the Cadette or Senior Scout level.

Must have demonstrated practical citizenship in the religious institution, school Girl Scouting and Community.

Must submit at least one letter of recommendation with application from an individual representing one of the following:

your church

your school

your community

Scout Troop

Submit a 500 word essay describing your Gold Award Project. Explain why you choose the project you did and how it made an impact on you and your community.

 

These scholarships are awarded to children of Veterans who served in the Armed Forces during the eligibility dates for the American Legion.

Awards:

(1) $2,500 Scholarship

(1) $2,000 Scholarship

(1) $1,000 Scholarship

*Ten outstanding students will be awarded a total of $27,500 to further their higher education.

**The applicant must complete 50-hours of community service during his/her high school years to be eligible for one of these scholarships.

The American Legion Samsung

There will be five scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, awarded.

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in each division of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Applicant must be a member of The American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion and shall have paid dues for the two preceding years and for the calendar year in which application is made.

The applicant also must be a student who has had at least one-year of college and is in need of financial assistance to pursue an undergraduate degree.

 

One junior member in each Division will receive a scholarship valued at $1,000 per year for four years - total = $4,000.

The applicant muust have held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the immediate past three years, currently hold a 2007 membership card, and continue to maintain her membership throughout the four-year scholarship period.

 

Tal Samsung *Samsung, a worldwide leader in electronics, endowed a scholarship fuund of five million dollars to be administered by The American Legion. The endowment was made to show appreciation to U.S. Veterans who came to the aid of Korea during its struggle against communist forces duuring the Korean War.

"The Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program" established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the $5,000,000 principal amount.

In 2003, seven $20,000 scholarships and ninety-one $1,000 scholarships were awarded.
