  About the artist
Virginia Hayward, watermedia artist, is a long time resident of Great Falls, Virginia. The beauty that abounds in Great Falls has inspired her to focus her art on the flora and fauna of her surroundings. Intense color--many times surrealistic, has become a dominant theme in Virginia's work. She captures the feelings that are evoked looking at the red fox scampering through the yard, the fawn asleep in her neighbor's garden, the flowers blooming and the change of seasons. Extensive travel has given her the chance to incorporate a variety of colors into her work. Virginia has experimented with a variety of media but her current favorites are watercolor and acrylic.

Virginia has participated in many seminars with nationally known teachers including Chen Khee Chee, Jean Spicer, Don Andrews, Steven Quiller, and Arne Westerman. She has exhibited and sold her work in local galleries and at Wintergreen resort. She has pictures in private and corporate collections in the U.S. and abroad.

Virginia is an artist member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists. She is also one of four artists featured in the October 2002 edition of élan magazine.  More of her work may be seen at the Spruce Creek Gallery, Nellysford, VA.  (434-361-1859)and at the Mossy Creek Fly Fishing store in Harrisonburg, VA.  (540-434-2444) You may see exhibits she currently has pieces in, by clicking on the Art Links button on the left-hand side of this page.
