9/17/2006 Apache Maid Mountain from the Poor Farm
We keep looking on the map around an area north of Clints Well .We see this mountain called Apache Maid. We decide to try a run at it from the Poor Farm entrance. We get a late start and as you can see below we are unable to just make a run at this mountain directly. The forest in this area is just too cool and we just have to take a few side trips.
(Right) most of the un-maintained roads were just wonderful for ATV riding
(Below) We see the mountain finally. This area has open grasslands and sections of dense forest.
Deer and elk were almost a hazard. I had 2 elk snorting within 50 feet of me . I think they hate cameras as much as guns.

(Above) You can almost see the road going up and barely see the tower.
At the top of Apache Maid is a short tower but has an excellent location. This is the 1st time the lookout did not ask us up ????
What’s that canyon over there ?
See,,, Now I went and spotted this strange looking canyon. I guess I will have to return and investigate. 5:30PM ,,,Ouch it’s getting late and we are very far from the truck !
