Evangelicals threat to religious pluralism
Anti-Defamation
League Director Abraham Foxman tells reporters in Jerusalem that U.S.
Evangelicals are threat to America's religious pluralism. In an interview with
Ynetnews, Foxman says he is not concerned with Christian support for Israel,
does not see Spielberg's new film as attack on Israel U.S.
Evangelicals are threatening America's rich tradition of religious pluralism,
Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Director Abraham Foxman told a press conference in
Jerusalem Tuesday. While
referring to American Christian Evangelicals as "our friends," Foxman
went on to warn: "If they succeed on their domestic agenda, to change the
balance of the separation of church and state, and bring America closer to a
Christian nation, as they wish, if they would judge candidates as they wish to
judge them, by whether or not they will act under Jesus' philosophy, how many
Jews do you think will eventually get elected?" Foxman said that
Evangelical Christians are attempting to implement changes "by
legislation," adding that religious organizations in the United States are
aiming to control "what pharmacists may or may not dispense, what
operations can or cannot be undertaken, and what books can be read." "What
we found distressing was that, unlike the past when the debate was
Judeo-Christian values… today the discussion is: Christian. It's not God, it's
Jesus. It's a particularist truth that is being promoted," Foxman said. The ADL leader
dismissed claims made by some Christian conservatives in the U.S. that there was
a coordinated campaign against the Christian holiday of Christmas, saying:
"There's nobody at war on Christmas. 95 percent of the country is
Christian. No body's fighting them. It's a made up conflict." 'Growing phenomenon' Foxman added:
"What was troubling was that those pushing for a particularist truth have
convinced the majority of America that religion and Christianity is under attack
in the United States. It's a growing phenomenon... motivated by faith." In an ominous
warning, he added that while the intent was not anti-Semitic, "the
Hollywood media" was a common reply given to the question of who was
plotting against Christmas. "If this campaign succeeds… the unintended result is to undermine the
pluralism of our country," Foxman said. Speaking to
Ynetnews, Foxman fell short of extending his domestic concerns over the
activities of U.S. Evangelical groups to their relationship with Israel. Their
support was "based on theology," he said. "They
believe in the second coming, I'm waiting for the first," Foxman said,
adding that he was not worried about the motive behind the Evangelicals'
support. 'Spielberg is not the enemy of Israel' The ADL leader
said he had attended a private screening of Steven Spielberg's film,
"Munich," which deals with the 1972 massacre of Israeli athletes by
Palestinian terrorists, and Israel's subsequent pursuit of those behind the
murders. "We do not
think this is an attack on Israel," Foxman said, adding that there was
"no moral equivalency" portrayed between the terrorists and Israeli
agents. "It shows unbridled, brutal terrorism on the
part of the Palestinians. It shows the need to respond. Also, this is not a
documentary… it's a work of fiction based on a historical event. It was a
movie waiting to be made. And if anybody makes it, if I had my choice, it
wouldn't be Mel Gibson. It would be Spielberg. And all of the sudden to make
Spielberg the enemy of Israel and the Jewish people… is a distortion of what
it's all about," he said. COMMENTS:
We
all need to ask this man what it all is about, don’t you think? Here is what I
(Jerry Healan) get from the comments that this man has made in this news story.
Please understand that in these comments, I absolutely do not support the
observance of Christmas or any other pagan holiday. Nor am I necessarily in
support of Christian Evangelism as it seeks to publish its message wherein it
seeks to sway its adherents to continue to maintain paganistic observances and
values. However, that being said, there are many areas in this man’s comments
that are very eye opening concerning what is going on in this country. While
this man declares that American Evangelicals are Israel’s friends, he fears
that their attempts to pressure the government into regulating movies, books,
etc. would threaten the possibility of Jews being elected. In other words, we
should have an “anything goes” society rather than a society that seeks to
regulate itself, its morality, desires, inclinations and even thoughts. Is that
the only kind of society that will elect Jews to political office? If it is,
then something is wrong with the Jews or at least with this man’s line of
reasoning and thinking. What
does non-regulation result in? Doesn’t it result in corruption of morals and
values? Of course it does! What
this article is touching base on is a coordinated campaign by certain groups to
suppress Christianity, its Messiah and the New Testament. We
need to ask the question, Who is it that is making this onslaught against these
Christian beliefs? The answer is that it’s the atheists, homosexuals, liberal
left-wing media and those involved in witchcraft. Should we also include some
Jews like this man who is the Director of the ADL? PARTICULARIST
TRUTHS He
comments that it isn’t the Christian values that he is discussing, but rather
the very term Christian and their savior Jesus. He doesn’t like their
“particularist TRUTH!” But
the Evangelicals are in an uproar because they and anyone else who has eyes to
see, understand that not only are the terms “Christian, Christmas, Jesus,
etc.” under attack, but also their moral values. Evangelicals
are making a stand against aetheism, evolution, homosexuality, witchcraft, the
liberal media, etc. Therefore,
because of the “PARTICULARIST TRUTHS” that are inherent in Christianity,
Jews may not be elected and that would spell danger for OUR COUNTRY! That’s
right! Mr. Foxman is the Director of the ADL, which is a Jewish organization of
the state of Israel and Mr. Foxman is calling “our country” (America), his
country. Hmmmmm….boy, couldn’t we run wild with this idea! We
do know that Mr. Foxman can’t be speaking of the modern day country named
Israel, because they have passed laws in their country which forbid Christian
Evangelicals from publishing or even evangelizing in that country. And here he
is concerned for the opportunity of “religious pluralism” in our country!?
Let’s see, don’t we call that a double standard? Oh
yes, Mr. Foxman wouldn’t speak about any domestic concerns over the U.S.
Evangelical group’s relationship with Israel since their SUPPORT was based on
theology and he wasn’t even worried about the motives behind that SUPPORT. Of
course not! As stated, Israel has laws prohibiting U.S. Evangelicals from
publishing, distributing literature, etc. in Israel. So he isn’t worried about
any effects there. They just aren’t allowed the liberty there that they have
had in this country and now he is worried about how their “PARTICULARIST
TRUTHS” will affect this country in threatening religious pluralism. Could it
be that Mr. Foxman believes that laws should be passed in our country to
restrain the Evangelicals here also? It
was brought out that the Evangelicals believe that “the Hollywood media” is
the perceived enemy in plotting against Christmas. Steven Spielberg and Mel
Gibson were introduced. A
MATTER OF CHOICE The
topic then went to Steven Spielberg’s film entitled “Munich” which is a
film about the massacre of the Israeli athletes at the Olympic games in Germany
in 1972. Mr. Foxman indicated that he had rather have Steven Spielberg producing
a movie of this nature rather than someone like Mel Gibson. Why?
Well...because Mr. Spielberg didn’t introduce a moral equivalency. It was just
a fictitious representation of an historical event. Fiction,
of course, is just that, fiction, fable, lie, untruth. It seems that Mr. Foxman
had much rather have Mr. Spielberg spin a fictitious yarn for us rather than
documented truths as Mr. Mel Gibson would do. You
see, if documented truths were presented about the 1972 massacre, this might
endanger the world’s opinion on the whole situation. Yes, it would reveal the
brutality that the Palestinians utilized against the Israelis, but it would also
have to reveal certain facts that led up to this onslaught which might be an
embarrassment to the modern day nation of Israel. Therefore,
Mr. Foxman wants us to live in a fictional dream world presented by Mr.
Spielberg rather than a factual, enlightened world as would be presented by Mr.
Gibson. By
the way, isn’t Spielberg an interesting name? I wondered what this name could
possibly mean so I broke it into two words “Spiel” and “berg,” and then
I looked up the definitions for them in the dictionaries and look at what I
found: Spiel
is an American English slang
word, or Scottish English dialect
word, referring to a rant or monologue,
perhaps of a dishonest or misleading nature. (Wikipedia) Noun—an
elaborate and glib speech or story, such as that used by a salesperson. Verb—speak
or reel off at length or glibly. Origin—German,
“a game.” (Oxford English Dictionary) Berg has to do with a mountain or hill. Putting
this information together, we find that Mr. Spielberg would be involved with a
mountainous rant or monologue of a dishonest or misleading nature. That’s
exactly what Mr. Foxman wants folks. The truth of this whole news article is, if
we read between the lines and apply factual knowledge of what is going on in our
nation today, that there is an element, or elements, in our society that is
working to suppress not only Christian Evangelicals, but the freedom of religion
when it comes to anyone who believes in the New Testament at all and takes it
seriously. Like
it or not, this nation was founded on the tenets of Christianity. It has been
the Christian religion that has been the champion of freedom and liberty in this
nation and around the world. Now there are those who are seeking to restrain
Christianity. When Christianity, the champion of liberty, becomes restrained,
then liberty, religious freedom will be lost for all. That includes the Sacred
Names Assemblies!
If the enemies of Christianity are allowed to have their way, then one
morning we will wake up to find our own beliefs to be forbidden. I hope that
when that day comes, we will ignore the restraints and put our lives and freedom
on the line in order to continue to proclaim Yahweh’s word and truths.
JH t’s rare that I find that I must write two editorials in one newsletter,
but I guess that since we are only publishing one newsletter every three months
or so, there are too many things that need to be addressed. Lately, America is up in arms over the sale of
management operations of supposedly six or eight of our eastern seaports to the
United Arab Emirates (UAE). The hysteria is real and it should be, because
the UAE has been implicated in financial support of Al Queda. They also were
implicated to have been supporting
some of the men who helped fly the aircraft into the World Towers in New York
City. There are also other links to the support of terrorism. One of the most important things that has been
overlooked by many is the fact that the company that already has the rights to
management operations is British. They are the ones who are in the process of
selling the management operations to the UAE. Another disturbing factor which hasn’t been
addressed by the press is the fact that China is in the process of either
operating or acquiring the rights to operate some of our western ports. A very interesting editorial appeared in the
Texarkana Gazette on 3/2/06. The title is “China, can you spare a dime?” The
sub-topic reads, “U.S. government spending spree financed by foreign
countries.” This article points out that while the nation
has been debating the implications of the UAE operating terminals on the east
coast, that another more important point of entry is being made into the U.S.
Treasury. Foreign nations, especially Japan and China
are holding $2.18 trillion dollars in treasury bills, bonds, etc. Japan holds
$685 billion, and China holds $256 billion. The article points out that we, being the
debtor nation, will be under the influence of our creditors. Since the debtor,
the U.S., wants more money to keep flowing in, concessions must be made. As the
debt increases, the concessions become greater. Interestingly, the Scriptures make this very
point. Proverbs 22:7 declares, “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the
borrower is servant to the lender.” The word “servant” can also be
translated as “bondman.” Therefore, the borrower becomes a bondman, selling
himself into bondage to the lender. THE REAL SELL-OUT Actually, the reporter or whoever wrote this
article didn’t do enough in-depth research. We were sold out farther back than
most of us in this day and age can remember. The printing of our money was placed in the
hands of the U.S. government by the Constitution. However, President Woodrow
Wilson and the Congress sold out this right to the international bankers in
1913. They were given the right to create our money by fiat, out of thin air, by
simply printing it and then loaning it to us at interest. Later, the bankers withheld money bringing
about the so-called Great Depression. This Great Depression caused President
Franklin Delano Roosevelt to declare the U.S. to be bankrupt. He tendered a
“New Deal,” which, of course, the real terms were covered up. But in this
“New Deal,” the bankers would own the U.S. lock, stock and barrel, so to
speak. In other words, the land, people, property, everything, in reality,
belongs to the international bankers. This is why our armed forces are able to be
shipped into hotspots like the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and other places at
the behest of the international bankers. Our military forces are now mercenaries
for them. Much ado is being made about the hundreds of
thousands of illegal aliens coming across our borders. Our military is sent into
other areas of the world to fight other’s battles, while they are not allowed
to protect the country’s borders. Why is so much of our industry being shut down
and sent out of the country? Why has President Bush brokered a deal to outsource
jobs to India? Why has he threatened to veto any bill submitted by congress to
overturn the sale of operations management of the ports to the UAE? It’s
because he has to do the bidding of the masters. Any threat of the Congress to thwart the sale
of the operations to the UAE is just posturing. They all know that the sale has
to go through whether openly or under the table. You see, it is because of their
own spending sprees and desire for campaign contributions that they are willing
to also sell the U.S. out. CONFUSION This author has long understood that the name
“Bush” has important meaning. Long ago, it was learned that the name
“Bush” is exactly like the Hebrew word “buwsh.” This Hebrew word is
defined as; a primitive root;
properly, to pale, i.e. by implication to be ashamed; also (by implication) to
be disappointed or delayed. (Strong’s
Exhaustive Concordance, Hebrew Lexicon #954) It is also variously
translated as, (be, make, bring to, cause, put to, with, a-)shamed(-d), be (put
to) confounded(-fusion), become dry, delay, be long. Mr. Bush has extremely confounded, confused
and disappointed many of his supporters during his tenure as president. His own
father was of the same mettle. Remember during his campaign when he said,
“Read my lips, no new taxes,” and then promptly caved in to tax increases
right after being sworn in? How disappointing and confusing, but rather like the
Hebrew “buwsh.” While the younger Bush has implemented a tax
bill that lowered taxes. He has supported and signed legislation that has not
only caved in to his own sworn enemies, but, in reality, has limited
Constitutional rights. Isn’t it rather confusing to attack Muslims because
they attacked us, wage war against them and then turn around and stand for our
ports to be managed by them? Isn’t it rather confusing to proclaim to be
a Republican conservative and then cave in to Democratic liberal bills passed by
congress? The Hebrew term fits in so many, many ways. Hebrew is the language of
revelation. CRISIS AT THE END We, who read, study, believe and teach the
Scriptures, understand that there is going to be a great crisis at the end of
the age. It is going to be the “time of Jacob’s trouble.” (Jer. 30:7) We also understand that the U.S. and certain
other nations are, in reality, the descendants of the northern kingdom of Israel
which went into captivity by the hand of the Assyrians back around 721 BCE. We are facing that “crisis” today! It is
looming in the very near future. Yahweh has fulfilled His promise to Abraham,
Isaac, Jacob, and Israel. He promised to greatly bless the forefathers and their
descendants. But He also promises to chasten and correct when they get out of
line. (Lev. 26:2; Hos. 7:12) Jeremiah prophesies in another places concerning the reason that the time of
trouble is coming upon the descendants of Israel in the last days, “Hear ye
the word of Yahweh, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of
Israel: 5 Thus saith Yahweh, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are
gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? 6 Neither said they, Where is
Yahweh that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the
wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought,
and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where
no man dwelt? 7 And I brought you into a
plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when
ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine
heritage an abomination. 8 The
priests said not, Where is Yahweh? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal (the Lord), and walked after things that do not profit. 9 Wherefore I will yet plead
with you, saith Yahweh, and with your children's children will I plead. 10 For pass over the isles of
Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there
be such a thing. 11 Hath
a nation changed their Elohim, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed
their (should be “My glory”) glory for that which doth not profit. 12 Be astonished, O ye heavens,
at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith Yahweh. 13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me
the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns,
that can hold no water. 14 Is Israel a servant? is he a
homeborn slave? why is he spoiled? 15 The young lions roared upon
him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without
inhabitant. 16 Also the children of Noph and
Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head. 17 Hast thou not procured this
unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Yahweh thy
Elohim, when he led thee by the way? 18 And
now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the
river? 19 Thine
own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know
therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken
Yahweh thy Elohim, and that my fear is not in thee, saith Yahweh ELOHIM of hosts. 20 For of old time I have broken
thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon
every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot. 21 Yet I had planted thee a
noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate
plant of a strange vine unto me? 22 For though thou wash thee
with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me,
saith Yahweh Elohim. 23 How
canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift
dromedary traversing her ways; 24 A wild ass used to the
wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can
turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month
they shall find her. 25 Withhold thy foot from being
unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I
have loved strangers, and after them will I go. 26 As
the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they,
their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, 27 Saying
to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for
they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in
the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. 28 But
where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save
thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are
thy gods, O Judah. 29 Wherefore will ye plead with
me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith Yahweh. 30 In vain have I smitten your
children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your
prophets, like a destroying lion. 31 O generation, see ye the word
of Yahweh. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore
say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee? 32
Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have
forgotten me days without number. RETURN TO EGYPT Israel was told that they had been delivered
from the “iron furnace,” (Dt. 4:13-20). They were warned that if they
refused to obey their Almighty Elohim Yahweh, that they would be returned to
Egypt (Dt. 28:68). The great overall preponderance of peoples on
this earth don’t realize that this prophecy has been fulfilled, especially the
peoples of America! |
